Disappointed by the news, not at the decision to waive him but at Pelletier's inability to make an impact whatsoever this camp.
Honzek and Klapka deserve to make the team, Pelletier doesn't. I still believe he could figure things out at the NHL level, but so be it.

So, Cooley and Schwindt join Pelletier on waivers today. I was guessing that Conroy was going to keep Pelletier up due to PTSD from losing Valimaki, but it looks like that was never a factor for Conroy and team and sticking to his word about giving spots to kids who beat out others for them, like Klapka and Honzek was more important.
Guessing Cooley will clear, but given the Flames apparent enthusiasm for the guy, they're probably going to be quite nervous tonight and tomorrow. If a team picks any one of these players up, they'll need to keep them up with them for the year, which is not ideal in most cases.

We will see. I don't see it. There is always a bunch of guys every waiver period where we look at them and think that guy will get claimed for sure and then they don't. Teams would rather plug one of their own young players for a look then take a chance on a guy who seems to have stunted due to injury. Especially when that guy is undersized.

Assuming the 3 guys waived today are either claimed or sent down tomorrow, they're at 14 forwards, 8 d-men, and 2 goalies (24 total).
All of the d-men require waivers to be sent down, so they've all made the opening night roster.
Coronato, Honzek, and Klapka do not require waivers.
If Sharangovich (or anyone else who might be banged up) gets put on IR, they can keep everyone else. Otherwise, Coronato will also likely be sent down.

I feel like the organization is over that terrible trauma by now, along with most fans.

Hope Pelletier and Cooley don't get claimed. Less concerned with Schwindt.

My guess is sharongovich is injured and Coronado goes down when he’s back.

I'm guessing the reason why Conroy has kept Hanley up with the big club is because there are already too many defensemen on the Wranglers. I count 7 guys already with Brzustewicz, Grushnikov, Kuznetsov, Tinordi, Aspirot, Poirier, Solovyov.

You can't tell the young kids jobs are there for the taking and then not let them take those jobs. You can't have a culture that promises to reward hard work and consistency... and then reward that hard work inconsistently.
Sure, it'd suck to lose Pelletier.
I have the feeling he makes it through, though.

I imagine he clears.
Still his performance pre injury had him on an NHL trajectory. Some team might see that and want to give him a chance. Kind of weird that a rebuilding club like the Flames wouldn’t think that way as well.

If Heineman and Roy make their team, there is no room for a waiver claim

Why?
Just because?
He didn't earn a spot on a team that have been screaming for him to do so.
If someone else wants to guarantee him an NHL roster spot.....good for them.
He did not earn nor deserve a spot on this club.

It's just a numbers game. But the numbers don't add up in my opinion. Too much D on the farm and the main roster, too much wing on the farm and the big club.
If anything, I'd say there has been some early trade discussion and we may some movement much sooner than later.
There's still players on the farm that earned main roster time as well.
Conroy's got some real strength in positions except one, center. He's gotta be shopping for one using his strength in position at other spots.

This doesn't mean they don't believe in him, it could be that they are aware his best chance of finding his game is by playing big minutes in the AHL as opposed to being our 12th or 13th F.
A risk/reward decision obviously, but keeping him up because of where he was drafted but not letting him play doesn't help the team or the player. No doubt the Flames hope they're the team that can help him rebound, but it certainly looks like the AHL is where that should happen.
Of course a team may take a chance on a former 1st and see if they can plug him into their NHL team and have that development happen on the fly. It'll be interesting to see what happens regardless.

Why do you think the Flames have "given up" on Pelletier? I suspect it is more likely that the team is pretty confident he will clear, and are still holding out some hope that he will work his way back to the NHL in his time with the Wranglers.

that just seems like a really confusing way of doing things (even if I agree with you about enough D for the Wranglers)
I mean sure make a call on Hanley over Pelletier (or Schwindt if you prefer), but that shouldn't be the reason. 33 year Hanley can- if the play is really to ensure all of your prospects see the ice in the A- eat popcorn there as much as here, no? (with the added advantage of showing them the ropes a little?)
I suppose some sort of long game is that they think he will have TDL value
