In the 70s, Espo was a big man. It's all relative.

Getting on the Frondell train early. Two-way Swedish C with strong physical presence? Yes please.

WTF.

16 years old and 7'0", 273 lbs. That's nuts.

Born in Moldova (dual Russian/Moldovan nationality).

Definitely a unique player.

Seeing him next to other players in his age group is hilarious.

That guy needs rockets on his skates, there's like negative speed attributes.

Idk, IMO it looks like he moves fairly well for a player his size, and his enormous stride combined with his reach make up for any deficiencies.

Ok, where do you place him in the draft

Couldn’t say, I don’t know much about this kid but he does still need a healthy skating upgrade, and some say he’s incredibly raw.

He’s young and raw I will reserve criticism for now.
With that said I personally don’t see the speed needed (yet) and feel like he’s almost “too big” if there’s such a thing (truculence I know Burkey).

I agree on the size thing, I fear the day that seven-foot-tall monsters can play pro hockey. I believe in size as an asset, but I’m not ready for that.

I would also like to see his speed take another step this year. And, even more importantly, I’d like to see him become the primary play driver on his line. You don’t really see much of him carrying the puck up the ice in those clips… it’s mostly plays from the top of the circles to the goal in the offensive zone. He definitely has great hands and scoring touch… but I think the quality of a top center in the NHL is the ability to be the primary play driver/puck carrier all over the ice. Right now, McQueen looks to be a goal-scoring center - which is great but I would really like him to add speed, puck carrying and playmaking the way Tage Thompson has as a big centerman for Buffalo.

Seeing that draft list its pretty exciting that so many of the top prospects are C. If we can get into the top 5 we probably walk away with our dream #1C.

the posts you're replying to are talking about Karmanov (a blueliner), btw. Not McQueen.
