I ended up doing the same Royle. Came straight down Olympic way and parked right across the road fr west entrance.

Very moving to see in person, the sheer amount of chalk art and messages are impressive.

This is from this morning. Went early and was the only one there for most of the time. Was sad but also felt very peaceful, especially reading the chalk messages and personal notes. Well done Calgary.

Just to add, there’s so many well written chalk messages it had me in tears over and over again.

My wife lost it when she read one that said:

“He wore #13 for the flames, but was #1 dad to his family, please take care of him up there”

Do we know how long the memorial will be up there for? Was thinking of flying out from Ontario, but if it'll still be there next week|month I can wait.

There is a concert at the dome tomorrow night. Lots of speculation that they will be cleaning up around 4PM tomorrow but I haven't seen anything confirmed.

Was there any tributes or a moment of silence at McMahon today?

May have been asked and answered already but are there any charities a guy can contribute to in Johnny's name? I mean any that the family suggested or that Johnny supported himself.

The photos don't do it justice to be honest, a beautiful tribute by the fans in the city.

If you haven't been down and wanted to then I'd recommend going tonight.

Kings of Leon is tomorrow so I'm guessing they will have to start removing some of the items.

Can they gate the area off?

Would suck if they took it apart.

They can’t leave it forever. Eventually flowers will need to be disposed of. The chalk tributes can continue indefinitely but the physical stuff will have to go at some point. Might even be a fire code thing for events. Having a giant obstruction blocking one of the primary means of egress seems like a bad idea.

I get that. Just feels a bit rushed. It’s sad and beautiful at the same time.

You're absolutely right, but it can't last forever.

I think we should focus on keeping it as long as we can.

I think he earned it.

That’s what I mean. I know it won’t last forever. We will probably have snow week that will wipe out the chalk anyways.

My guess is they will try to keep it but might have to alter it a bit to comply with fire code.

That's the biggest entrance in and out of the Saddledome

It's really nice to see people coming together to look after Matt's family. It sounds like he was following in his dad's footsteps and coaching youth players in his hometown area. He didn't have the lucrative career his brother had, but he was giving back to the community and was dedicated to the sport and helping others achieve their goals.

I have so much love and respect for the Gaudreau family and hope they can find strength to carry on.

I feel lucky and privileged that they shared Johnny with us and we were able to part of their world for as long as we were.
