I don't know how Ryan Leslie was able to do that interview this morning on 960. Kudos to him for sharing those stories and doing that while still so raw. Him and Jonny were clearly very, very close friends.

Still extremely hard to come to grips with the fact that this actually happened.
Can't stop thinking about what the Gaudreaus are going through right now.
The wedding, their young children, the drunk driver... everything about this is beyond tragic.
No words.

I don't think anyone needs concern themselves with defamation. Read the NBC article, the police say that he admitted to being drunk and continuing to drink alcohol while driving when he struck the Gaudreaus.

Terribly sad news. I really loved him in his time here in Calgary. What a huge blow to the Gaudreau family with both of them being taken, and right before their sister's wedding. Just heart-wrenching to hear that this morning.

If you think of your flames fan experience as memories, one of the greatest in all sports is a a game 7 overtime winner. I’m too lazy to look up but the only other one’s I remember are Otto’s goal against Vancouver in 89 and Gelinas in 2004. Memories like that make the make all the disappointments and frustrations worth it. RIP.

just wanna talk about the mental health aspect of this news today. For a lot of us, this might be the first celebrity death that hits close to home. we might be asking ourselves why we feel these powerful emotions for someone we didn't know personally.
We are grieving more that just the individual today, we also grieve for our own emotional connections to johnny. Watching him play with friends, family, our community of flames fans and hockey fans creates a deep emotional bond, its painful when its severed. It also targets our identities; as flames fans we share that collective identity that johnny symbolizes and it feels like part of that is gone now. We mourn both the past and also what could have been.
it's important to remember self care today, to reach out to others and share our grief. check in on your fellow fans and share a memory or two. eat a good meal, get some rest, take a break from the screens.

Will wait to see if it's actually confirmed to be him.

Everyone at my work that cares about the Flames has been walking around in a bit of a fog this morning. I suspect there are going to be some early long weekends.
The Flames have lost people in the past, Beast, Mickey Renaud... but this one is just different.
There was lots of anger when Johnny left Calgary, but it wasn't a result of hatred. It was an expression of hurt at losing someone that fans loved so much. Pretty clear from social media and boards like this that Flames fans never fell out of love with their superstar.
RIP Johnny.

Still can’t believe this news. Hockey doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things but the posts on this thread show how much Johnny meant to Flames fans. Can only hope his family can somehow cope with this loss. Just awful.
