It would be both the greatest thing to happen (screwing Edmonton) and the absolute worst thing to happen (returning Toronto to center of the universe prominence) all at once.
Unless they both somehow end up in Utah.

I do think hockey at some point is going to need to make a course correction.

Mcdavid's from the area and spends his summers there, got married there. "Mcdavid to Toronto" has been discussed since he was drafted. No different than the Makar to Calgary pumpers

I saw some Twitter buzz that Stutzle changed agents which is somewhat bizarre since he is one year into an 8 year extension. If Draisaitl doesn’t stay in Edmonton I could see him wanting to team with his German buddy but certainly not in Ottawa. I wonder if a team like SJ or Anaheim could pull a deal for Stutzle (who would force a trade) then sign Draisaitl next summer?

Except McDavid is approaching UFA, Toronto isn't a poorly regarded destination and Toronto will pay the man. Plus there's precedent for stars wanting to go back to hometown Toronto much more than Calgary. Tavares, being the prime example, but Gio wanted to go there was well, same for a few other guys.

Meh I'd come home to Calgary for the right situation. It's a great city. But I 100% wouldn't do it to go work for Uncle Murray. We're hamstrung until we get a real owner who wants to build a great organization with his own cashflow.
So yeah...as fans we need to stop making it about the city, and make it about ownership and leadership.
An idea: The guy could build a practice facility and academy with a giant Flames symbol on the top of it, office space, field house, media, training and 4 rinks that would be FULL year round. I mean I guess it's good business to just break even for over a decade waiting to bilk tax payers to increase the capital value of your business and reap your share of expansion fees, but it doesn't exactly build market share or loyalty from your customers.
