Only 16% were completely wrong. A solid 73% correctly predicted that the Oilers wouldn't match Broberg. It was Holloway that took most people by surprise.
There were 4 options and only one outcome.
Are you seriously giving out bonus points for being 'kinda wrong'?

Ah yes....reaching out to the Cold Souls of post-Cold War Eastern Europe...
We understand. But we're rebuilding, not 'Going For It.'
It will be interesting to follow.
Podkolzin and Holloway are 3 months apart in age. Over their entire NHL careers Podkolzin has scored .25 ppg and Holloway .22 ppg. Of course Podkolzin looks to be trending down and Holloway's career arc appears kind of flat thus far, but showed some flashes in the playoff run that could be a possible uptick.
I really thought Holloway would become a player for the Oilers, and $2 million seems pretty matchable if that is the case. Apparently the Oilers management feels differently.

Are you seriously claiming that this is about ‘bonus points’, or indeed, that anybody gives a rat's ass about how people voted? Please.
But let's go with the idea that someone is handing out some kind of points here. There were two separate questions awkwardly combined into one poll:
1. Will the Oilers match the offer sheet on Broberg? (Yes/No)
2. Will the Oilers match the offer sheet on Holloway? (Yes/No)
The majority of voters got the first question right, and an overlapping majority got the second one wrong. Where I come from, if you're even bothering to keep score, 1 out of 2 right is 50%, not zero.

If a few weeks ago you told Oilers fans and media that they would be better off with a 2nd rounder, a couple of 3rd rounders, and a fringe prospect instead of keeping Broberg and Holloway, they would have went on a tirade. Now that it happened, they think it's fine.

I mean, if you want to look at career points, knock yourself out. But one guy had 26 points 3 years ago, and 9 points since. The other guy just had a break-out year. One guy is trending down and was just dumped by the team that drafted him, while the other guy was offer-sheeted from a 3rd party.
These two players are not close in value. Imagine if a Canucks fan had made a trade proposal of Podzolkin for Holloway, a couple weeks ago - you would have laughed at it. But spin away!
He is under contract, i assume his injury is genuine.
But unless he wants to chain himself to the Edmonton Oilers, he needs a strong season of impressive numbers if he wants another contract and LTIR isn't going to do that for him.
There are Personal and Professional issues along with Cap compliance issues, it really depends on how he wants to play this.
Round and round and round the wheel goes, where it stops? Nobody knows!
Well also, he scored 24 goals and 44 points for the Oilers last season which are not insignificant numbers.
If he's on LTIR then unless that scoring is replaced, expect the team to be worse. Maybe not miss-the-playoffs worse but they could end up with a lower seed and a tougher path in the playoffs.
So it seems the Oilers are between a rock and a hard place when it comes to Kane's availability.

Of course, would you want to lose your media access credentials… lol

LTIR also prevents them from accruing cap space for a deadline deal. So if they are putting him on LTIR they have to probably plan to have him there all year and use him as their deadline acquisition when he comes back for the playoffs.

Holloway had 9 points in the regular season (19 point pace) and scored at a 23 point pace in the playoffs.
I feel like calling that a breakout season is spin on your part.
I definitely wouldn't have traded Holloway for Podkolzin. I also wouldn't have offered Holloway $2.3 million based on what he has done so far. I would have matched the offer sheet because I think Holloway has potential, but its far from certain he turns into the goods.
The Oilers traded Kostin away two years ago after he wanted $2 million for a slightly better season scoring wise than Holloway had this past season. There were a lot of fans disputing that one. We will have to wait and see how this one turns out.

You wouldn’t offer him $2.3M but would have matched the offer sheet and paid him $2.3M instead of taking two thirds?

Yeah. Wouldn't have offered him $2.3 million because he wouldn't have gotten that without the offer sheet.
Zary for instance had 34 points in 63 games and it wouldn't surprise me if he comes in at less than $2.3 million.
I would have matched Holloway for $2.3 million, forgoing the third in compensation. I didn't consider the second 3rd as we have never seen the offer sheeting team give up additional assets beyond the compensation. That is a new wrinkle I don't think anyone expected.
