This is actually a great time to be making them. With the increased cap, the compensation levels also increase accordingly. Getting these guys for 2nd and 3rd is great value.
This move really hampers the Oilers ability to improve their team, right in the middle of McDavid's prime. Go Blues!

My guess, Oilers will match both,
If they can't free up the cap, they will match Broberg and won't match Holloway

This feels like a nice disrespectful house warming gift to Bowman.
Hire scum, and the league will treat you in kind.

Offer sheet rule question, is it only the Oilers who cannot trade the players if they match for one year or are the Blues on the hook for the year as well?

I think the Oil will match both because they are terrified of pissing off their fan base right after their "miracle run".
Oh...and just in case:

Don't forget the $3,016,667 of dead cap from buying out Neal and Campbell!

And the bonus cost for signing and playing McDavid’s buddy Brown last year that carries over this year.
And the absurd cap hit of Nurse which is so bad the oilers would have to pay a crazy amount to move. And even if they could, they risk upsetting McDavid and Draisaitl who include Nurse in their click of the locker room.

Still think it would have been better if the Flames did these offer sheets. throw some spice onto this rivalry. and no skin off the Flames teeth if they got both.

I see that the Oilers cant trade these players if they match, but what about the blues if they get them, can they trade them whenever?

Does anyone know if the Oilers could trade Broberg or Holloway within the next 7 days to another team? And then that team faces the decision to match the offer? Of course they would match in that scenario. Don’t think it’s ever happened before and I’m not sure why a team would. The acquiring cost is set at this point. Any team that wants either player would need to offer the equivalent of those compensation picks. I guess it would give the oilers the option to trade with someone else if they really didn’t want the blues to get their players.

they did as per Seravalli, "One dollar more on AAV for each player would have bumped up compensation".

There are no good options here for the oilers. They're in win now mode, so can't trade a veteran to keep these two players who haven't proven themselves. They can't match these two players, just to flip them. They can't keep the two players.
I think they have to let broberg go and take the pick, which is the player the Blues are probably really after. They probably sign holloway and put Kane on LTIR

Our second is going to be a high pick, Blues missed the playoffs by 2 points. It makes sense for them. Not us.

They cannot, they match or take the compensation.
