I get the headline but I think it’s a non story. Would I name him? Personally, no. Look at the rumor mill for years where the team has been divided between Marner and Matthews, then everyone else and that tells me he’s probably fairly immature. But Treliving has never been the smart one about picking character.

Two thoughts of mind. Are you loyal to the guy who is captain, or do you transition to the true face of the franchise. No correct answer.
Colorado keeping Landeskog as captain is kinda silly at this point.

It will be most amusing if the Leafs finally manage to draw a different opponent – and lose to Buffalo in round 1.

Because Tavares will probably re-sign with the Leafs at a discount so with Matthews entering year one of his latest deal it's probably the right time.

Presumably they should wait to see if he can play before they strip the captaincy away. The only reason they would do so is if he can't play.
This is not a Taveras situation.
