It's a fair point of view all in all. Superstar was probably the wrong word, but potential HOFer was probably more along the lines of what I meant. He's been above average, even in his down years, he sells jerseys because he's home grown and his HOF dad's name, had one MVP year, but his eye was off for almost three seasons. So ultimately I see him as a star player and he should be paid as such. Just not a future HOFer which if he's gunning for that money, we should not be giving it to him.

At this point though I'm not sure $28-$30M is even HoF money.
Its star to superstar money

I can agree with how youve restated things. However I still feel hes worth a huge money contract even if he never becomes a HOF player.

Jays should just play Vlad at 3B for the rest of the season and see how it goes. Nothing to lose

I'm more enthusiastic about doing that AFTER they sign him to a long-term deal. Vlad at 3B might be worth an extra 3-5MM/year.
Signing him now probably gives the fan base something to celebrate vs a tear-down as well

1) Convert Vladdy to 3B
2) Find a way to go back in time and get a younger Votto
3) Print money

I just yearn for the days when guys had actually positions and are not making their major league debuts at positions they have never played.
Can't believe the mess they made of this roster. I would be game to move Vladdy back to 3rd with Horwitz at 1 and Bichette at SS. Find your 2nd, LF, 4th OF and platoon C. That is a lot of pieces.

And that is without listing what they need for pitching, especially in the bullpen where they likely need 3 maybe 4 new arms.

I think they need 1 new arm for the bullpen. To replace Yimi. Everything else can be handled internally.

Yeah, at this point I don't know how they think they can retool for next year. The pitching is what actually concerns me the most. Gausman's age is catching up to him and I can't see him being an ace going forward. Berrios is what he is. A middle rotation inning eater. Same with Bassist. And then Manoah is a huge question mark. So they have like a 3, 4, and 5 guy. Need some top end talent which will be hard to find on the FA market.

I would think they 3 or 4 arms for the bull pen (2025).
Rest of the season, will be like spring training (lots of AAA players are getting extended looks).
It will be a very busy offseason.
As its sounds like, the Jays intend to contend in 2025.

I would agree with this. 3 or 4 arms for the bullpen and 1 or 2 starters. Manoah will not be ready so maybe Bloss slides in there? Not really sure.
Contending in 2025 is actually a scary thought to me. I don't think they have a good grasp of what this roster actually is. Another year maybe.

I agree, an retool is required in my view.
However Jays stated they feel they have a really good team etc.
if you look at their moves very few impacted their roster next season.
They have kept it in tact, my guess they will spend in the offseason to sign UFAs and make trade trades etc.

Loving that lineup today. Barger grabbing a spot for next year would be huge. I like Clement but he is a part time utility guy.
Similar roster make up to the Flames. Decent depth but no stars or game breakers.

I disagree with this. If they had a bunch of great internal bullpen options we'd have seen them by now given how big a tire fire the bullpen has been this year.
