Was there solo for 4 days back in 2018 and I spent so much time at such awesome places. Visited the WW2 museum in Gdansk last year solo which is an amazing, yet very sombering place. I like going solo as I can take my time, don't have to explain everything with whomever I'm with, and can really get a feel for what I am seeing.

Dougie Hamilton was right all along.
I recommend the WWII museum in New Orleans for that.

Auschwitz is the place. That might sound like an unfunny/tasteless joke, but I mean it. I've been there and it was sickening and a gut punch and evil and disgusting. But if you are interested in WWII and that type of history, it was the best I've seen.

EDIT: Nvmd, I'm not following up after a post about the devastation of Nazi concentration camps by talking about luxury underwear...

Auschwitz is on my bucket list, albeit a very tragic one. Feels like everybody needs to see it to be reminded why we can't let the world go down that road with that type of tribalistic thinking again.

And the NOLA WWII museum is incredible. I was there in 2019, going to NOLA again in October and going to visit the museum again.

In a way I almost find this funny.

just because, overall I agree with you. 'gut punch' is probably the best description.

But its practically a luxury resort these days compared to what those people went through.

RIP Jacques.

I have been there too. You can feel the evil as you walk around. Especially those basement dungeon rooms.

When I was working in London, my office was near the British Museum. Everyday at lunchtime they have a free guided tour in some little corner of the museum, so I used to use my lunch break to go there and learn about something random, like Minoan art or Roman coinage. That was a great little luxury.

Also, I lived not too far from the National Army Museum so I would go there from time to time and, starting at the beginning, read every single thing until I got bored, and then my next time back I'd just pick up where I left off.

Theres a Gear Grinder! I bought some really nice work shoes a few years back, they were the most expensive shoes I've ever bought! (not $800 mind you) but nice leather, the works.

They are the worst shoes I've ever had. I hate them.

$70 Sketches slip-on loafers, my man. You'll never wear a more comfortable shoe. And they come in about six different shades of #### ugly brown, so you can accessorize with different outfits.

Not sure how long ago the last time was that you went, but hopefully you find the Tyrell has matured a lot in terms of the photo-worthiness of quite a few exhibited items

Don't knock that slate grey option...finally found a decent-looking pair. Got em right before I went to Europe in the spring, been walking on sunshine ever since.

I got these expensive Italian Leather Work shoes and...they are they worst.

I remember years ago renting those stupid shiny shoes to go with a Tuxedo at a wedding and I thought those were the worst!

Oh no. They dont hold a candle to these bastards.

I want to go back to where I bought them and beat the salesman to death with one of them.

I'm not even all that aggravated about the cost! Its the principle! You buy Italian leather shoes...they shouldn't suck!

Next time somebody whines about me suggesting CP is a bunch of old men I’m going to link them to the “luxury” thread where people are talking about Sketchers.

Don’t most people try the shoes on first before spending ridiculous amounts on them? Or is throwing all caution to the wind part of the luxury purchase process?

I was really interested in the 10-eye Doc Martens, but when I finally got to try them on, they weren’t comfortable at all, so I gave up on that dream rather than spending the money and complaining about my circumstances.

That's where they get you with the "break-in period". You say it doesn't feel good and the salesman says it's because the luxury shoe needs time to mold itself to your feet and once it's broken in, it will be like walking on a cloud. What that really means is they want to wear it long enough that you can't return it.

I consume a significant amount of maple syrup. Pretty consistently. That’s my thing that I won’t cut from my budget.

I have to admit I have a few pairs. They are comfy and almost as easy to get into as sandals. Every morning I am tying my shoes, I can see them on the shoe rack in the corner of my eye and get tempted to put them on but I have to think of what's on schedule that day and decide it I really want to rock that look.

There's no "t" in Skechers. Have some damn respect, man.

And I have to say, no matter your age if you're still posting on a message board in 2024, you old.
