Clase sounds like a platoon guy with Varsho next year.
I’d have preferred them to go a bit younger with a higher upside but it’s always a crapshoot with these rental trades.

Yeah. From a "need" perspective I think Varsho is already a good defensive CF, and having two defense-first outfielders isn't a good idea, imo.
Still, with his speed and strong power in the minors maybe he can be a good defensive corner outfielder who is also a decent hitter.
Anyway, with prospects it probably makes sense to always just go with best-player-available anyway.

The return seems low. Garcia is a great reliever but it feels like they got a new Drew Fisher in return.

Based on his general hitting profile, I don’t think he is good enough to play corner outfield other than as a late inning replacement as he comes in to pinch run. I can see him playing CF and hitting 8th in the order when Varsho needs a day off or is facing a tough lefty.
The Jays need a big bat in corner outfield. They’ll need to find one in free agency. It will be pricey but it is a must.

Great reliever ?
He’s a fine reliever who had a great 30 game stretch
This is an amazing return IMO

Agreed. He'd have to break out as a hitter to become a corner outfielder. He's a couple years away anyway, imo. The big drop his numbers took from A to AA means he needs some seasoning time.
I'd love to see Soto, with Santander as second choice for that slot.

Middle relievers aren’t bound to get much. Certain closers do but it really depends year to year. I don’t blame Atkins on this deal. Seems about right (some potential, but limited ceiling).

He is a good reliever but soon to be FA, and they got a middle of the road prospect . It is what it is.

Agreed. I'd philosophically prefer a prospect with higher upside but more risk of becoming a big leaguer, because ultimately stars under team control is what makes a championship contender. Is what it is, this trade is fine.
Likely doesn't add much value in the future but it wasn't like having Garcia put up a zero in the 8th twenty more games makes any difference either.

Looks like he's now ranked 7th on the Blue Jays list.

The Blue Jays farm system is pretty lacking but Seattle's farm system is supposed to be pretty deep so some good players could be at spots they would be higher on other teams.

Depends on the site, Seattle is 18, Jays are 24.

Looks like Nate Pearson was just traded
"The Cubs have acquired right-hander Nate Pearson in a trade with the Blue Jays, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers and Jeff Passan"

Good. Overrated Nate.
Nice surprise this AM tuning into Olympic coverage and hearing Shulman calling basketball.

Pitching prospects are always pretty hit and miss but the fact the Jays can’t seem to develop anyone (pitching or hitters), despite proclaiming some lofty plans and goals, is IMo the biggest indictment of the Atkins and Shapiro regime.

Too bad. He just never put it all together. Watch him light it up in Chicago.
