If available, Edmonton would hire Gary Glitter to produce their in game and intermission entertainment.

Well Knoblauch only has what, like 40 games left in the typical Oilers coach lifespan?

I'd say this is very likely

It wouldn't surprise me.

Even on the off chance it isn't coach Q that he brings in, new GMs don't tend to be very patient and like to bring in their own guy. If the Oilers have a slow start to the season, I wouldn't be surprised if he is turfed pretty fast.

I actually think Knoblauch is probably a better coach than Woody was. Woody is a total fraud.

I already did this joke with P Diddy. Now you've just gone and aged yourself by changing it to Gary Glitter

I try not to follow the tire fire up north, but what was the reason behind Holland and the team mutually parting ways? Seems odd since the guy just took them to game 7 of the cup finals.

They gave him an extension, but he forgot to sign it while fixing his toilet seat.

Recall the Oilers let McTavish's contract expire at the end of the 2006 regular season, and then he (Pronger) got them to within a game of the Cup. Flames had to overpay then and kept him as coach.

Like others, and having been in the game long enough, Holland knows it's not worth the telling of tales out of school, but one time I'd love for an ex Oilers coach or GM to spill the details.

He knew he was done months ago, long before the playoffs, likely when it was made known through back channels that Bowman would be available come the offseason.

Really, if he didn't know when he was hired that he had no control, he knew when Lowe rushed to sign Kassian after the Tkachuk incident, how much time he really had in actually control.

Could say the same for Chia, Tambellenni, and the coaches Macllelan, Eakins, Renney. Kruger didn't find out until he answered a Skype call.

Katz likes collecting shiny pieces that had cache in the league. It started with Nicholson, who had zero experience with an NHL team but everyone knew him from Hockey Canada. Renney and Quinn as co coaches because of their name. Getting Gretzky onboard. Hitchcock even. McLlelan and Chia were named back when, and to get them was an apparent coup, just like the others.

But in Edmonton, windswept vacant lots are schools.

Wasn't there a rumor that the Oilers were going to hire Mark Hunter as GM, then have Bowman as the VP above him or something? What happened there? Did they decide Hunter wasn't scummy enough after the interview?

I thought it was that they were going to hire Hunter as GM and Bowman as a special advisor to the GM. So basically have Hunter as the face, but Bowman pulling the strings backstage.

Hunter probably had sober second thoughts about that and walked away, leaving them to just go with Bowman. Just baseless speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is what happened.

What happened was they mistook Mark for Dave Hunter. The three impaired driving convictions in 2 years was very attractive to them.

I understand that Bowman has inquired about exchanging the franchise names between Edmonton and Nashville.

Interesting that the Sportsnet website doesn't have a single critical article about the hire. Just the Spector "chance to show he's a changed man" fluff piece and Seravalli video of him beating the drum for the old guard.
