If Huberdeau is pacing 90+ points by March I think someone will make a trade offer, we might have to retain salary (4M?) but conroy will pull the trigger and everyone will be happy

Not sure the guy would be able to speak a sentence that people here wouldn't hate. Talk about the rebuild, its your fault. Talk about how we could compete, still his fault. I get the disappointment in how he's played but it seems exhausting to care this much about an interview

The Kylington thread is exhausting. At least people are talking about hockey in this one.

I'm going Barkov (1), Bob (2) and Chucky (3). And I love Chucky. No hell in way Forsling is ahead of him even with his turnaround since being acquired by FLA. IMO, dino!

Exactly this. flames ain’t going to be competitive for a playoff spot until 27/28 at the earliest. Probably not good and legit competitive to go on a run beyond being a bubble team until 29/30. If that timeline is accurate his contract looks like this
Year two - top 5 pick
Year three- top 5 pick
Year four - top 10 pick
Year five - top 12 pick
Year six - maybe outside chance at making the playoffs, probably a lottery team.
Year seven - hopefully a legit competitive team.
Final two years may hurt but he will help the team get some really good players over the next 3 seasons minimum. And the Flames may never have properly rebuilt if he was still a 100 point player. Guy should be a Forever Flame if the rebuild works out.
Also, he said nothing wrong in the article.

You guys can continue with the narrative if you like but if Bob didn't go into god mode they would have gone nowhere...their franchise had totally changed when they had 93 points and were down 3-1 to Boston? Or did it change when the 10M backup they were trying to move turned into a top 5 goalie?
Bob stood on his head in game 5 against Boston, I really think some of you need to revisit that game...that was the turning point of the franchise. Multiple breakaway stops in the 3rd and OT. If not for that its out and 5 and a summer of trying to move the 10M boat anchor.
If 4th best player on the best team in the league is supposedly an insult take it as such, honestly its pretty damn good IMO.
|
Tkachuk is the 4th best player on the Panthers? That is a crazy opinion, sorry.
You can make arguments for Barkov and Bobrovsky, although I think Bob can be on and off. But there is no way he is the fourth best.
You ask 30 teams today to select one player to steal from Florida and all 30 gms take Tkachuk or Barkov.

Tkachuk didn't do much in the finals against either Las Vegas or Edmonton. He had one lovely pass to Bennett for a goal against Edmonton and was acting like a petulant child against Las Vegas.

This past playoffs it's not even debatable that the best two players were Barkov and Bobrovsky. Who would anyone choose to start their franchise or to select for their own team depends on a variety of factors today such as a guys' age, contract, position, etc., but based on this past playoffs, Bob stole a few games, as did Barkov. Tkachuk didn't do ####. Full disclaimer - I am a hater. Goaltenders are heavily underrated these days, so arguably Tkachuk would be the second most sought after player all things equal. He does have a unique skillset in that he's an agitator with the lost art of getting in the slot. Teams would value that greatly as it's a playoff skill long gone. But Barkov would be the first apple of most teams' eyes IMO.

If you think BT should have been able to see that - I don't know what to tell you. I don't think that's a reasonable expectation.

Florida did. Whatever the expectations were, it’s the worst deal in history and he did it.

The score was 1–1 even strength when it was Barkov vs McDavid. He also had the 3rd most take away in the finals ever.
So if you say Barkov opened things up for Huberdeau what did he do for Tkachuk who plays on the 2nd line

It should be noted that Forsling finished a (distant) third in Conn Smythe voting, while Tkachuk didn't get a single vote.

Tkachuk is like Claude Lemieux from the Colorado teams. Scored a bunch of goals and irritated people but that team was going nowhere without Sakic, Roy, their checking/PK unit (Keane and Yelle, wow,) and Forsberg.

Trying to remember the number of times that Lemieux was a finalist for the Hart. Lemieux did have a career high of 81 points in one season and was often almost in the top 90 scorers in the entire league.

No, Florida did not.
Bill Zito is not a mad genius with a crystal ball who knows exactly when players will turn into pumpkins. He saw an incredibly rare chance to pick up a young 100-point scorer in a trade and knew he had to give up premium assets to do so.
Florida's biggest worry about Huberdeau was how to re-sign him with a flat cap. It was pretty well publicized at the time.
