I think the Flames organization has, through the whole thing, handled this very professionally. I think they did a great job, a really great job.
I do feel that Oliver owed them some loyalty after that, but I totally accept that we don't know all the facts either. There are many possible circumstances that we have absolutely zero clue about.
I do hope, though, that if another NHLer finds themselves in the same situation as Oliver that this isn't looked back on and that player doesn't get the same treatment from whatever organization because of how this played out.

Jesus christ Jay Random. The Flames couldn't have suspended him for not showing up because they agreed for him to not show up.
I don't care if they could have if he didn't. That's not what happened. If my dad was 6"9 I might be taller but too bad that's just not reality.
Flames agreed for him to not show up. Those are the facts.

Now he wants more money for doing nothing, ultimate betrayal of a team who backed him and kept their silence while paying him. They could have suspended him when he didn't show up for camp instead they supported him the whole way.

Exactly this.

The team treated Kylington well right from the beginning of the whole issue. Some organizations would have treated him badly right from the beginning. Some organizations would not have respected his privacy, nor leaned on the media to keep them from poking around for juicy details. Some organizations, having paid a player several million dollars to do almost nothing, would not even have considered offering him another contract.
The Flames did not have to do any of those things, yet they did.
|
My take is the Flames couldn't have suspended Kylington and it's based on facts on what transpired.
Fact #1 Kylington asked the Flames for a leave of absence and to stay in Sweden
Fact #2 Flames agreed.
Fact #3 Flames had to pay Kylington once they agreed to it
So let's stop with the Flames were nice and didn't suspend Kylington BS.
Flames allowed Kylington to stay home. That's it. That's all they get credit for.

This would be like your kid asking you to stay past curfew and then they come home late and you punish them for being late even though you agreed to it.

You can tell if any Flames player is traded or no longer under contract with the Flames when Dino comes in with a sudden stabbing spree into said players back. Like clockwork.

I think part of the frustration is we see teams like the Oilers, Vegas, ect. hire every piece of human trash imaginable, ruthlessly kick players to the curb or force retirement/LTIR, force them to play with poor medical advice ect. and they seem to get every break in the world, free agents banging down the door.
Flames treat their players very well, offer more money ect. and they still have every player trying to nickel and dime them for all they are worth.
Thank god Conroy has finally taken a stand...Bank accounts of Flames players who have turned down contracts recently haven't aged well, I bet this is another one.

dude shut up, every thing I said is 100% true
I also said I want him back at 1x2m...maybe read instead of using your previous bias. And if you think I am the only who thinks OK made a poor decision you are out to lunch.
All the burnburner and 960 guys agree with me, vast majority of fans as well.

Really? Like who?
Zadorov got overpaid. Gunbranson got overpaid. Tkachuk got his money. Guadreau got his money. Lindholm got his money.
I honestly can't think of a single player who regrets not taking a contract from Calgary recently.

"got his money"
I said their bank accounts haven't aged well. Tkachuk got less, Gaudreau got less, Hanifin got less, Lindholm got less. Like are you even serious right now? All these guys were offered more by the Flames. Lindholm "got his money" 15.5M less than the offer he turned down but okay guy.

Their bank accounts are fine. Your post made it seem like players regretted not taking the Flames contracts. Tkachuk got less than what? He wasn't signing here so that's irrelevant. Gaudreau as well. Hanifin as well.

I already know you are incapable of understanding why your point is invalid.
The Flames made a decision at the point when they agreed to let Kylington miss camp. They could have made the opposite decision. The fact that they did not make that decision is what they deserve credit for.
They had control over that choice and made it freely. You had no control over the height of your father – which makes your analogy absolutely daft.
Why are you incapable of understanding the simplest and most straightforward reasoning?

From my source something happened to him that hit home hard. I won’t go into the details as it’s quite personal. But then he became a Laine and a team member had to kick him out because he wasn’t trying to get better.

Lindholm is getting $13,750,000 less on his current contract than the amount the Flames offered him. I'd imagine most people, even most millionaires, would find themselves regretting that.

That's a lot of assuming. Gaudreau had a better contract from the Flames and still picked columbus for less money.

I said what I said, reading comprehension my friend. Lindholms counter to the Flames was 8x9M and he signed for 7x7.75M.
yeah went great for him lol

Do you not understand I never made the point that the Flames didn't deserve credit for allowing him to stay home.
I literally said they deserved credit for allowing him to stay home.
They do not deserve credit for then not punishing him when he does what they agreed to do..not show up.
It's very simple and yet you continue to fail to understand and argue points I've never said.

It's simple arithmetic. There is no ‘assuming’ in arithmetic.
Gaudreau did not pick Columbus for less money. He refused to sign with the Flames before knowing what anyone else would offer. The best offer he received turned out to be less. But there was never any moment at which both offers were simultaneously on the table and he could choose between them.
