Marchenko and Necas are the biggest two to watch for me. I'm sure it'll be easy peasy for CLB to lock him up

So this means Carolina only has until the arbitration ruling to trade Necas, correct?

Why? He's RFA, they hold his rights and can trade him anywhere. If the arbitrator set the salary, the Hurricanes offer it, and he hasn't signed it yet, he is still their property.

The only way he can become UFA is if Carolina doesn't offer him the arbitration award, right?

I think this is the case but could very well be wrong.

The walkaway threshold for Arbitration award is $4.7mil this season. If the arbitrator awards a contract below the threshold, the team must accept the award and sign the player to the awarded contract.

If the award is above the threshold, the team has the option of walking away from the contract and making the player UFA.

For teams close to the cap, the worry is that the arbitrator awards a contract that is too rich for their cap structure but below the threshold so they have to accept it and make a corresponding cap move.

I'm sure there's a reason and I'm sure it's been posted before. But always find it amusing when a guy like Spenser Stastney, with 6 points in 28 career NHL games (to date) is filing for arbitration.

Or Jet Greaves, with all of 10 games to his name.

I think it is just to make sure they get a contract. I think sometimes the arbitrator can award one-way deals when the team is only offering a two-way.

The one Oiler player who was eligible didn't file, so, people can stop posting scenarios where the Oilers buy out Kane.

Unless the Oilers are brazen enough to file for club-elected arbitration with Raphael Lavoie.

If they do that, I hope Lavoie asks for Kane's salary and the arbitrator gives it to him – just to punish the Oilers for gaming the system.

If a player is awarded a contract through arbitration he can't be traded.

I don't see that anywhere in the arbitration rules. Are you thinking of the rule for offer sheets, perhaps?
