Puckpedia says Washington's cap is a $102 for next season. What are they shedding to get under?

I would assume Backstrom isn’t going to play again, which takes care of nearly $10M

Sure, but you have to be cap-compliant before you put someone on LTIR. A better question would be, I thought you could only exceed the cap by 10 percent in the off-season.

Yeah this is confusing. They took the full cap hit of Mangiapane and PLD and made a signing in free agency.
They can send us Oshie along with their 1st, but they are 14 million over at the moment.

If I'm Holloway I'm more pissed that they brought in two forwards in Arviddson and Skinner. And got rid of only one (Foegele). And re-signed Henrique, Janmark, Brown and Perry.
Unless they are telling me that Kane is as good as gone, I'm wondering where my lineup spot is.

17% over the cap at the moment.
I am looking over the roster, and to be cap complaint its hard to find what they can just toss away aside from Oshie and Wilson. Bizarre stuff.
They even added more cap with Chychrun.

I thought Oshie was retiring. There was some rumblings end of season.

I posted in the Capfriendly thread as well.
Backstrom + Oshie LTIR takes care of their cap issues.

Because it's a common occurrence. Why would anyone get pissed, its just business in trying to improve the team? These players aren't 12. The Oilers will figure it out, teams always do.

Yes, but you have to be cap compliant to start the season, and I thought you could only exceed the cap by 10 percent in the off-season.

Sorry, busy family matters today.
I've reached out for an update, the only update I got late last night was:
"The prices were........."
Which I think is a good thing, because Craig held true to his plan in not overpaying UFA's and giving term that would *cough, Treliving the team up, cough*
Flames made offers to other guys as well, but just wouldn't offer the 6-7 year term that was being handed out like candy yesterday.

Teams usually send some players down for a day to become cap compliant, then bring them back up and LTIR some players.
But the 10% rule in the summer is correct. Perhaps some players are technically not on the NHL roster yet, as they can be sent down without waivers?

Incorrect.

Is that with or without Backstrom's $9.2 million going on LTIR to start the season?

Or trade Kuzmenko and a second for him with the hopes to trade him in 1.5 years for a haul??

So you are trading the better player and a second for a lazy Laine? Let Kuzy build his value back up and flip him instead.

If I'm not mistaken, this was done specifically to address cases like Backstrom and Carey Price, so teams don't have to paper a bunch of other players down to the AHL because of a guy who is never playing again.

If you have come off your ELC and the pie is all gone, why would you not be pissed. Yeah teams go over, but the bulk of the bulk of the issues the Oilers have is from cap buy outs and bonus overage. There is a reason a bunch of their signing are at the minimum.

No no no, apparently only 12 year olds get pissed when a business that holds your rights shaves the piece of pie you were looking at down to nothing.
