So who the heck are our defense and how do they rank?

With Kylington looking unlikely to return and Gilbert gone who are our main guys now?
 Top pair guys: Weegar, Andersson
 Mid pair guys: Miromanov, Pachal?
Bottom pair guys: Bahl? Do we still have Hanley? Bean?

Parekh likely doesn’t make it this year, Ohotiuk is in Russia, so can ignore him.

Tweeners: Solovyov? Grushnikov? Oesterle (blah), Brzustewicz? Poirier? Kuznetsov?

How would you rank these guys 1-10?

Perfect defense for right now. All that’s blocking Parekh to make the team is Brayden Pachal. Prove you’re ready, otherwise this is sufficient for a rebuilding team.

Ideally Parekh has another year in junior to work on his defensive game and bulk up a bit/mature physcially... not ideal to burn a year off his EL deal this quickly when the team is still in tire fire/burndown mode. Keeping as much team control and maximizing value from the EL deal when the team actually starts to get competitive again is critical.

Broke up Weegar and Andersson to each help the less experienced guys.

2024/2025 Possible Graduates - Solovyov, Poirier, Kuznetsov

2025/2026 Possible Graduates - Parekh, Brzustewicz, Grushnikov

 2026/2027 Possible Graduates - Mews

As players graduate they push players down and out of the lineup where applicable.

In the system, not sure what to expect - Jurmo, Ohotiuk, Jamieson, Fibigr

I would be sad if one of Solovyov or Grushnikov dont make the team out of training camp.

All eight players still better than Nurse.

They were talking that Bean has a lot of potential to grow. He used to play 20 min a night his first year in columbus.

Unless there are some big surprises, this is a bottom 5 team.

He's got 2 years max in junior and than a 3 year entry so you are talking 5 years max the Flames can benefit from his ELC. Will they be contenders in that time?

Likely not.

Alternatively if you burn the 3 year contract off right away, you have a better chance of getting a bigger discount on a 8 year second contract.

I’d like to see at least one rookie on D getting regular shifts this year. They going to have a lot of rookie D breaking in over the next few years. It would probably be smart to try and spread things out a bit so there isn’t an overload in any one season. Solovyov seems like the logical guy this year. Or maybe Grushnikov. They could split it up between them too with the Wranglers being located in Calgary.

I feel the same. I think we have defense to trade. Solovyov stayed in the city too to train with the potential to make the team too
