I am glad Conroy lowballed these guys. That would have been awful especially if we pushed 8.5 for Lindholm.
|
I’m not sure if Hanifin or Lindholm were low balled. He offered more for both.
Backlund’s a great contract.
I’d take Hanifin at the contract he signed or even Calgary’s offer.
I wouldn’t want Lindholm for either contract.
Zadorov and Tanev are insane deals.

I swear I remember his “suspension” is up around November and he’ll be back being a roster player.

Yeah counting Nichushkin and Landeskog makes it seem more dire than it probably is

Nichuskin doesn't count while suspended i think. But 6 month suspension ends middle of season, then he is back on the roster. So they have to have flex to fit him in at that point.

Stan Bowman and Joel Quenville reinstated by the NHL. Edmonton Oilers are probably on the phone as I write this.

If the rumours are correct, they were already talking to Bowman and that's probably why this has happened.

I wonder if the Oilers try to get Brad Aldrich reinstated too.

Zero question that the Oilers knew this was coming down. League wanted to bury it well after the draft and Jul 1 for the PR fallout, but seems like it leaked so they had to announce.

That should be it for the day as far as FA but can we expect anything else trade wise today? Insiders anything?

I think he made an effort with Hanifin. They came close a few times
In just don’t know how hard he went after Lindholm. He said that he knew he was trading Lindholm in September. You don’t hear much about them negotiating during the season. Seems like he knew Lindholm wouldn’t budge and made an “offer” he knew wasn’t going to be accepted and said well we tried and moved on.

They still haven't announced Conroy's availability, which is a bit odd.

So how much cap space left?
Now we should concentrate our goal and start help the teams that compete against Oilers next season. Take their bad players with a short term and get some draft picks and help them use the space for some useful players.

Conroy running a lean-ship.

With 2G, 13F, 7D the Flames have $20,974,167 in cap-space.
Pelletier, Coronato, and Wolf not included in those numbers.

I don’t think so. It’s clear he had more than a few other targets today, and didn’t hit on any of them.
I think he wants to show fans, players, and STH that they will put an acceptable product on the ice and if you can’t sign them, use the assets of cap space and picks to take decent overpaid players on expiring contracts via trade.
July 1 really is the best day of the summer to send that message with all eyes on things.
So probably working a trade or two to achieve that.

The rebuild process isn't one year - it's more a 4 year process after a couple high pick home runs have been done. For that reason I hope they don't take on any longer term contracts that could handcuff the team in 4 years when some of their now young guys, need to be re-signed. If someone offers a solid first, akin to the reverse Monahan, great. If not, nope.

Oh I meant it was odd because it could mean that he was still working on things.

I think he is probably just mad that the Flames didn't offer him the coaching job last year.
