I think the first pick in the 2nd round of 2024 has more value than a 2025 2nd round pick which is guaranteed to be the same or later.

No, otherwise the Flames would have taken him at 28
At the point the Flames need everything. I would take the most talented, highest ceiling possible regardless of position

Yeah except the talent has dropped significantly around 25 or so in this draft

Out of the two Swedish Center available I'd lean towards Lucas Pettersson over Linus Eriksson.
I like the speed factor more.
There's still the Finn's too.

Goalies are voodoo. Wasting a high pick on a goalie is bad drafting. You should be able to get as good a goalie in the later rounds as in the second. I still have ptsd from mason macdonald. Hockey news mentions this in the draft preview. So many better goalies went after Macdonald. Go heavy after skaters in the early rounds and take a swing at a goalie with our sixth rounder. It’s like drafting a punter in the early rounds of the nfl draft. Let’s hope Conny drafts smart and stays away from goalies until much later in the day.

This looks to be a very weak draft for Cs. Just have to find kids that might be able to play regardless of position. Probably an unpopular take but no sense taking a small C that won’t be able to play due to size when you can find a big winger or d that stands a much better chance to play. Seems like a very weak draft for Cs, let’s get kids who have the frame/skating/intangibles that might be able to take the next step instead of focusing on positional needs, especially when the pool is so thin at that position.

Evan Gardner would be my goalie target. Either that or a euro. Pick guys that stop pucks.

Alfrons Freij if he’s there, I have this feeling the kid is going to pop.

Pronman gives the possible reason that Igor Chernyshov was skipped over in the first round:
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/559...st-round-2024/
Quote:
Igor Chernyshov was a highly rated prospect who didn’t go in Round 1. The big Russian winger ended his season on a poor note. He missed game action at Dan Milstein’s end-of-season camp in front of NHL personnel because of a bad sunburn. It left a bad taste in the mouth of some NHL people given that some scouts already had some questions on the player’s maturity, even though he is a top-20 prospect on talent.

^Oof, that's almost as bad as Dustin Penner's pancake eating injury.

Wouldn’t mind Lucas Peterson with 41
Is today the day we some picks traded for players?

Interested to see where some of the hometown kids like Elick and Bruinicke go. Also know a few other kids that at one point or another were considered as maybe late rounders like Cooper, Sherpa and Free.

I am looking forward to some of these guys falling in the second round and being excited for the Flames to take them. Then, being outraged when they pick someone else even though I have never watched any of these guys before.

Televised but wildly different than the first round. Rounds 2-7 are typically commentators talking about various topics as picks roll in on the screen.

Is Allan Sherpa being talked about going in the draft. Someone told me his last name is Sherpa because his dad was a Sherpa. First Nepalese kid drafted.

I’d like to see the flames pick up Ryder Ritchie one of the younger guys. Good track record.

Hutson, Artamonov, Chernyshov, Basha, Stiga, Plante, Kiviharju, Ritchie, Misa...I'd be happy with any of those guys in round 2.
