Without knowing his usage, hard to say that.

Was he still getting premium ice time?

You mean you’d pick that over being in Stockton?

It's tough, but I think so.

To be serious, the only teams I'd be interested in playing for in the AHL would be San Diego and Coachella, and that is purely because of geographic reasons. That's it.

I would gladly play for Chicago or Hershey because of all the history involved with both those teams.

I do suspect the Wranglers might make a play for Phillips. Would be cool to see him come back. They missed his offence last year.

Hard to blame Nelson for sticking with the players that were are familiar to him, had existing chemistry, and were winning games on a successful playoff run.

It's ironic that Phillips ditched the Flames for the Caps when he would have had so much more opportunity on the Flames and Wranglers this season.

Should be interesting to see where he lands next. If I were him, I'd be targeting the KHL or Swiss league...do the European "grind" for a decade and still retire with enough money to last his lifetime.
Didn't the caps offer him a 1 way contract? That was definitely the right call for him.

What about your hometown? And your partner's home town.

You marry/date a professional athlete, you sign up for the risk of relocation IMO.

Of course. And then sometimes you end up in a situation where you get to choose.

Up to the person / couple. Me, I'd move overseas, no problem; I'd probably even leave my significant other to do so (if they didn't want to go). Everyone is different.

I wonder what he does now. He could probably try his luck in the KHL and maybe make some really good money there. But then he has to live in Russia. Or maybe another European league would be good, like in Sweden, Czechia, Germany, or Switzerland. I don't think they make as much as in the KHL, but living in a beautiful European country has its own rewards. Or maybe the life of an AHL vet suits him fine. You can still make decent money playing hockey and possibly get a few more call ups to the NHL.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back with the Wranglers. The farm has some openings for vets and could use some skill. I'd be all for giving him a 2-way deal with a decent AHL base salary.
How did he cost himself money? He has money in his accounts now that he wouldn't even start to get for another 4 months from now. I doubt there is a significant difference in what he signs for this year compared to what he would have gotten last year on the Calgary deal.

I think there is a good chance he would have been in the NHL a lot more last season on a team like the Flames, possibly the whole season. It worked out for us though, because it may have come at the cost of Zary or Pospisil coming up. Then he would be going into a one-way deal this season (Flames offered 2 years, the first year being a two-way deal, and the second being a one-way).

I don't think he'll regret not having a crystal ball on the Coronato injuries and Dubé situation. I doubt he'd have ended up with any more games here than he got in WAS anyways

Spent all of last season in the AHL. You'd think with our farm team in the same city the Wranglers would've been a good option for him, not sure if that was on the table though.
