Conroy did mention at the time that the door was open for a return, but perhaps that ship has sailed.

Hershey had a strong lineup, but playoffs are a different style of game.

Phillips was injured at the start of AHL playoffs and when he was healthy enough to play, he was probably and unfortunately just the odd man out. Phillips isn't a bottom six player and the Bears top six was already full of small players in the 5'7'' to 5'10'' range that played the entire season Bears season. Hard to blame Nelson for sticking with the players that were are familiar to him, had existing chemistry, and were winning games on a successful playoff run.

It's ironic that Phillips ditched the Flames for the Caps when he would have had so much more opportunity on the Flames and Wranglers this season.

Should be interesting to see where he lands next. If I were him, I'd be targeting the KHL or Swiss league...do the European "grind" for a decade and still retire with enough money to last his lifetime.

I still think that Phillips would be a good fit on the Wranglers.

I thought he had a good chemistry with the likes of Pelletier and Zary while he was here, and he helped them both gain confidence in the O-zone in the AHL. Maybe he can develop a similar chemistry with the likes of Honzek, and Lipinski.

He still got into six playoff games and didn't get a point in any of them.

If he was the odd man out, it's because he played his way out of the lineup.

The young Wrangler fans love him, in a top 6 role he can be very dynamic, if for anything bring him back for ticket sales

Go to Europe and have a nice life

You are not going to make it and we don’t need more noise from the local

I'm not so sure. He had a ton of opportunity in the NHL this year, 31 games.

I wouldn't mind bringing him back to take over the Wranglers captain role assuming Sutter is done. With a lot of rookies coming in, a skilled tweener would be beneficial.

If not, all of the best in Europe.

Would love to see him back on the Wranglers, and smashing 'em deep down the middle at Priddis.

In the Barnburner interview it sounded like Conroy was leaning towards having Honzek play in the AHL next season. Would love to have Phillips on his line if that’s the case.

Phillips would be great on the Wranglers again, but he could probably cut out a pretty good living (and paycheque) playing hockey in Europe. His game is catered to the DEL or the Swiss National League. Seems like a guy with HC Davos written all over him.

Who wouldn't want to play and get paid in Germany or Switzerland?

Probably a guy who's worked his whole life to make it to The Show, where the games actually matter. I'm not convinced this is the end of his NHL dream but time is running out.

That is certainly ethnocentric of you.

There was a post earlier in the thread by btimbit where he described his friend's lifestyle in some European league. Practice Thursday, game Friday then piss off around Europe on a team-issued rail pass for the rest of the week.

The games do not matter in the same way NHL games do.

Matter to whom? Are you the arbiter for things that matter to different people?

Go to a game in the DEL or Swiss league and tell me the game they're watching doesn't matter (to them, obviously not you).

Not sure about those leagues, but I went to an AIK vs Djurgarden game last year. 2nd tier of Swedish hockey and the spirit was much higher here than many NHL games (be it the fans or the players)

Oh man, playing in something like the Swiss League, making good coin, and getting a team-issued train pass to travel around Europe when you're not playing? Oh hell yeah I'm saying yes to that. Beats playing for the same or less in the some small /boring AHL team in the middle of nowhere.
