I think the Flames will be on the hunt for a top 3 center this offseason so Frost makes a lot of sense as a fairly but low candidate and someone who could put up 50+pts in the right situation. Rooney/Schwindt could be the 4th line guy and between Kadri and Bscklund you have guys in their 1-3 spot so a guy that can fit any of those roles is likely on the list and a younger guy is likely the target but some rumors of a Monahan reunion are out there

Not sure why they don't just dump Atkinson and trade Konecny for picks. Retaining salary on both, returns could be very good.
If so, they should trade Frost at the TDL or on draft day for picks, not Andersson.

Yeah, I don't think they are trading Frost for Andersson.

They are not trading him as a cap dump either

My guess would be a 2nd for Frost

Was told a few tidbits just within the last few minutes, I inquired into the Frost idea out of curiosity:

Flames are not actively shopping Andersson but are listening on a number of offers, though nothing good enough to pull the trigger. They like Andersson but know his contract makes him a valuable asset should he wish to move on.

Feeling still like Eatbred could move, though retention most likely needed. Not a lot of interest currently, feels like it’s more of a July 1st idea when people start missing on UFA’s.

Flames will look to add a 3rd string goalie, preferably one with NHL experience. Copley seems to be at the top of their list.

Flames are actively trying to move up from 28th and willing to spend depending on how high they can get. Would like to get into the 11-15 range but feel there’s a really good shelf all the way up to 20. Sounds like this is a high priority as they feel after about 20-25 it’s going to be wide open.

Has heard Frosts name come up, but no further details. This one’s all Diss for now, I’ve asked to be kept posted if anything substantial comes up.

Expects Calgary to be in on a number of veteran defenseman, though Craig won’t overpay. Flames were high on Skjei but feel the market will drive up his price too much. Don’t expect Tanev back, Flames won’t offer the term he’s looking for.

Busy week for the Flames, teams are very active now. Feeling is this could be the busiest draft in terms of movement, Gary might have some serious podium time this year. Lots of teams looking to start contending and willing to move their mid round picks for immediate help if the price is right.

Would have to think mangiapane would be in this range. Surprised with what you said earlier. To your point, retention could help.

I was speaking to this about a week ago but if the Flames are interested in Debrusk, moving Mangiapane for a pick or two makes all the sense in the world to me.

Any chance at a Coleman move? After Rasmus, he seems like the only other realistic piece a contender would pay for. 3rd would be Kadri.

It appears as Todd McLellan is now the head coach of the Blue Jackets as per John Buccigross.

Great to hear Conroy is being so active and I love his stance on free agents. Very smart. Get another pick in the top 15 and make this a home run draft! Iginla + Catton/Lindstrom would be the dream… but it’s a real long shot.

If they can get another top 15 pick, gotta grab a D.

Iginla/Catton/Lindstrom/Senneke
Dickinson/Siylav/Parekh/Yakumchuk

That would be a big success for this draft.

Don't really know much about Frost, but seems kind of redundant since we have Zary who has taken a huge step forward. Would expect him to put up 40-50pts next year and hopefully graduate to a full time 2nd line center by end of season.

Kadri / Backlund / Zary down the middle, not exactly sure where Frost would slot in.

Mangipane, and Kuzenmenko will play for the Flames until trade deadline season. I don't think there should be a rush.

Hopefully we can weaponize some cap space by retaining on Mang for a decent return. Feels like there could definitely be interest at some point based on what Royle's heard.

I agree, I tend to think of Frost as pretty “meh”. I see him as small and soft, and the only reason he put up the numbers he did the last 2 years is because Torts rode his ass constantly.

Frost was pretty invisible in the games against the Flames this year.

Yeah, unless there's a sweet deal at the draft (and I don't see why there would be) the market for middle six guys/power play guys etc will be teams that think they need a little something more at the TDL.

Guys like Mangiapane and Kuzmenko would be after Free Agency deals. Teams will need to make their pitch for a Debrusk, Tarasenko, Reinhart, and miss out before considering dropping assets for lesser versions.

We all appreciate the info but we always hear every year there is going to be a ton of movement. And nothing happens. NHL GMs are the most conservative bunch out there (see last years draft as example - no firsts traded during the first round). And they are all trying to throw each other anvils, not life jackets. Good to have the intel as to what is being discussed but proof is in pudding. Prepared for another slow draft with lots of discussions but very little action.

Not wrong, there’s always chatter and it’s whether or not it materializes.
But with that said there’s more open chatter this year than previous years.

We’ll see come Friday! I’m excited either way.
