Bob's list is usually the closes to how the draft goes.
We probably have a real good shot at Iginla.

Really? The reason is apparent even to me, and half of CP will tell you I'm the dumbest person in the world except for Treliving.

I'll be so mad if it goes like this and we take Tij over Catton.

I understand but I have said two things all along. First, Tij Iginla will be there at 9 and second, Conroy has no alternative but to draft him.

Personally I’d be happy with Tij or with Catton. Still holding out hope we can use Rasmus to grab another top 10-15 pick and somehow get both

I personally prefer Helenius over Catton.

If the Flames can get two picks in the top dozen, they pretty much need to use one of them on a defenceman – especially if Andersson is going out the door.

I tend to agree and both points. Iginla is a great goal-scorer (second-best behind Eiserman??) and could potentially be a centre so I think the risk is worth it.

And yeah, I know some people will say "but some people think Iginla could play C". Yeah, we've heard the same about Coronato and Honzek ... how about we just draft a real center for a change? You build through the middle, not through the wing. This franchise should know.
Now, I also think it's quite possibly a moot point because Iginla could already be off the board. And that's the scenario I'm rooting for, to be honest ... it would absolve the Flames from making that call at 9. And honestly, it might also be just better for Tij to go somewhere where he doesn't have the pressure of being the son of the franchise's greatest player.
|
I understand the sentimental factor. I also think Tij is a phenomenal prospect. But with our needs and given the prospects available, I want a center or a defenseman at 9.

I think the fact of the matter is that the Flames still need to sell tickets over the next couple lean years and the Iginla name will help do that without the pick being considered a BPA reach (if he's even there). Even if Jarome and Conroy weren't part of the front office, I think it would still be a consideration that militates in favour of the pick.

Tij won't be be playing in the NHL for another 2 or 3 years. Drafting him now doesn't sell tickets does it?

Here's the move up from 28th analysis. Wrt to our 28 and 41 picks, it sounds like they are close in value. Bob says.....
Quote:
It seems there’s a divide of sorts between the top 20 on TSN’s list and the next group of as many 20-plus prospects. Famous last words, but it would be shocking if the first 20 on our list aren’t surefire first-rounders. Beyond that, though, the prospects ranked 21-32 would appear to be somewhat interchangeable with those ranked 33 to 50.
|
So if you can take our 62nd and use it to move up from 28 a little bit? Puckpedia would value our 28th plus 62nd to equal 23rd.

Well maybe, maybe not. If the Flames trade Mangiapane and don't do much in free agency, then do they have enough skill players in the organisation to keep him out of the lineup? I'm not saying it would be right, but it wouldn't be the first time a top ten pick appears sooner rather than later on a lean Flames roster.

He'll just be 18 when camp opens in September. He'll be going back to junior IMO.

It's absolutely batsh*t crazy to me that the Flames fanbase would lose their collective marbles if they picked someone other than Iginla at 9 if he made it there . I hope they don't pick him even more now because of this lunacy.

That's the real nice thing about an Iginla, or even an Eiserman pick (personally I think Eiserman would be a nice grab. They are both almost eligible for next years draft with late birthdays. It actually makes Eiserman's totals that much more impressive in my mind, notwithstanding the eventual flight risk of drafting him, and the questionable attitude others have mentioned.
