Interesting update on the travel situation for both teams. Florida appears to be doing the exact same travel scenario as their first trip to Edmonton, arriving the day before the game despite the previous "issues" and recommendation to arrive early. Long flight, time change, altitude change and more. I can see Florida management not wanting to stick around a very hostile environment too long in downtown Edmonton.
https://www.flightaware.com/live/fli...710Z/KFLL/CYEG
Edmonton on the other hand appears to have left very early this morning after a big game. Florida was adamant they didn't want their players waking up really early for a long flight and wanted to focus on recovery right after a game/long flight.
Edmonton's charter also needed to make a stop for fuel in Kansas City, Missouri for about an hour. When this happened previously, it was attributed to the terrible weather in Florida and the plane not being able to carry enough fuel to go all the way to Edmonton.
https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/ACA7040
The Jet they are flying (Airbus A320) has a range of over 6000 km's but the distance is approx 4000 km's.
Any of the airplane fanatics on here be able to explain this from a range perspective? It does seem that both teams are employing very different travel schedules for their respective clubs.

With three days off between games I really don't see travel as much of a factor.

I'm sure they do, never said they didn't. Even at 3-2 down the odds still favour Florida. The point is, go ahead and toss out the whole down 0-3 thing. Doesn't matter anymore. The odds of 4 straight red on roulette table is 6.25%, but if you came upon a table that showed 2 reds had just happened the odds of two more happening are now up to 25%. Last week Edmonton was staring down a deficit hole that's only been overcome once in history. Now they're staring down a hole that gets overcome routinely. Holding on to the fact that they WERE down 0-3 is just cope.

This is an excellent way of looking at it. It's absolutely putrid that it happens to be our provincial rival that landed a generational player and is going on this run. This, of course, was also after many years of being the NHL's laughing stock, acquiring multiple first round picks and mismanaging them. Even once McDiver was an Oiler there have been many season of ineptitude and incompetence. They were bound to have this degree of success at some point- for the first time in 5+ years they are getting decent goaltending and penalty killing to go with their offence since they were gifted McGoldenboy.
I can only imagine what things were like for the Penguins rivals (Philly probably at the time?) when the Pens landed Malkin and Crosby. I am sure it was Crosby, Crosby, Crosby... non-stop. Then all that penguins success and cup wins.
Or how about any fans of the Knicks in the Michael Jordan/Bulls dynasty days? I for one was a Chicago Bulls bandwagon fan in junior high, I didn't give a second thought to the knicks or their fans. Chicago was the bandwagon team to cheer for at the time because of Jordan's skill and status. Probably the same reason many fans outside of Alberta are wearing oilers gear- they grew up either now or when Gretzky's oilers were dominant.
It's just magnified 300% for us diehard flames fans right now because it's our hated provincial rivals.

you aren't listening...based on history the Panthers are favoured to win GAME SIX not just the series.
Teams that come back from down 3-0 to make it 3-2 are more likely than not to lose in GAME SIX. It is not the same as if the series was 2-2 and the Panthers just won game five the odds are in fact worse for the Oilers based on historical data. Believe it or not. Good teams do tend to learn from mistakes and pressure is a real thing.

Devils came back from 3-0 down to 3-2 and got stomped 6-1 by the Kings in game 6.
Guess who was on that Devils team. Adam Henrique.
He will be a trivia question after Friday.

yeah I didn't just make up these numbers...teams that come back from 3-0 to make it 3-2 have historically lost game six

Just 1 goal, 1 shot, 1 game. All it takes, stay the #### out of the box and stop giving up shorthanded goals deflating the team and PP.

I remember when Steph Curry won in 2015 and when they went back saying it still smelt like champagne.

Exactly.
I live in Edmonton (not by choice, life took me here), and the city is buzzing a lot. You can't tell me that won't put more pressure on the Oilers squad as they start to buy into the hype and feel the pressure to send this all the way.
Florida just has to weather the storm in the first period of Game 6, and focus on executing their game like they did in the second half of Game 5. They haven't played well in any 1st period thus far in this series. They don't have to win the game from the 1st period, but they can very easily lose it if they don't show up ready for the start of the game.
There's a reason why climbing back from a 3-0 deficit has rarely occurred in history. It's because the leading team eventually course corrects and learns how to deal with the pressure.

Totally agree. They need to win the first period in game 6 no question. That's all they should be focusing on for now. The first period in game 6 might be the series for them. They can't come out of it down. They need to act like that period decides the cup.

I think it's considered 2 days between games as opposed to 3. Friday morning both teams are skating prior to puck drop.
I don't think it's a big factor but it's interesting the contrast between the two. Florida staying behind again despite being encouraged to arrive early for media purposes, weather or other unforeseen events happening. It's very common in the NHL that when eastern based teams play a far west based opponent in Canada they have an extra day for travel. Not always, but common schedule wise. On the opposite end, NHL teams rarely stay overnight in the same city as they just played unless schedule allows or it's a better location for practice/team activities. They really try and make it right away to their next opponent. Even NHL officials and specific media are doing the traditional route of arriving early as evidence by their plane.
https://www.flightaware.com/live/fli...355Z/KFLL/KMCI
I don't think it's a big deal at all, when the media made a big deal about the previous trip by Florida it was way overblown. They arrived at 8 pm local time, not 4 am. It is unique though that Florida is going against conventual travel routines for NHL teams, especially in the finals.

Out of curiosity, when does Conn Smythe voting typically end? It seems like an award that could be up in the air potentially as late as a game 5 in a SCF.

As was already stated last time for many reasons (aka the water), the less time in Edmonton the better. Not just because it's.... dumpsterville, but maybe that's one less night in a hotel bed, not sleeping as well. Maybe there's a chance the player's routine (i.e. sleep) gets interrupted by rowdy rival fans, especially if they find out where a team is staying? I'm sure fans bothering players isn't really a thing anymore with hotel security etc, but I know I don't sleep as well in hotel bed versus my own. Though I'm not a travelling professional that's used to it.

I have read it’s the second intermission of every potential clinching game. Which means it has been voted on twice already.
