Of course it's your opinion, you are posting it. It's not like you said something, but magically a different username was attached to it.

I find it useful. Prefixing it to a statement that you really mean as just advice and not stern beseechment sets the tone.

Like if I'm giving girl advice to my younger bro. I wont tell him that he has to buy her flowers on her birthday. I'll tell him that 'what's worked for me in the past' is to send her flowers two days before her b-day or something.


IMO is also useful when discussing a controversial issue. It clearly states that you're speaking for yourself and for nobody else. It also denotes respect for other peoples' opinions.

I find it useful to use when I am arguing a point. When I use information that is impossible to quantify, other than personally, I use IMO.

To me, the "H" for humble implies "It's likely that you will disagree, which is why I am being humble about it."

Without the "H", it comes across as a little more absolute.

I use it alot in other forums I post on.

For me I use it to let other posters know that the post I made is my opinion on the subject and not a fact.

It seems that a lot of people add it just in case someone will call them on what they said. A way to prevent an arguement or not get involved in one, but still be able to state your side.

Just not a fan I guess. Don't get me started on the word "classless" however.

Another question for you IMO users. Do you use it when speaking to someone... not on the net, but real life? I rarely have someone say "In My Opinion" to me.

In real life you have things like tone, body language and volume that aid your discussions so IMO isn't needed there.

I use it on forums as a way of toning down the arguementative side of a post when I'm looking for just a good discussion.
A lot of posts can come across as arguementative on here, because there's no tone etc. and IMO helps keep the bitchiness down and the good discussion up.
