I don't mind him but let's be honest, he is a cheap financial hire for Rogers. Sportsnet goes cheap for pretty much everything. Even the diversity hires are lower paid analysts, the marquee ones require a much higher salary to bring on.

We all know who Luke Gazdic is. He's a retired meathead with a very appropriate last name. Gaz is French for gas, and dic is self-explanatory.

It's to a much lesser degree, but I liken it a little bit to people that get emotional about a post on this forum to them or that they disagree with and simply can't not respond or react. Cant remember which poster it was that finally got banned, but for a good 3 weeks, they'd post ridiculous crap and you'd see what felt like 10-20 of the same posters respond to them because they simply can't ignore them, dragging the entire thread into an abyss. Or posters who are so upset about a pending Flames loss in a game that isn't over, that they create insane threads because they're emotional and can't stop themselves. Gazdic clearly got really emotional about social media commentary about him and he couldn't control it and lashed out with things he would know aren't true if his head was clear. Losing in game 7 isn't a "dusting". A bunch of the other crap he said was clearly just a guy lashing out. While yeah, he probably didn't get any training, it's still shocking to me as an observer to see grown-ass men behave like this whether it be on TV or on social media.

If he criticized Oiler fans that would be one thing. But Sportsnet is basically an Oilers Homer broadcast anyways. It us basically all of their team except Bieksa and maybe Friedman.

Yeah Friedman has been an Oilers honk during the playoffs.

Oilers fans want Simpson off colour because apparently he was too much of a Stars fan and they want DeBrusk in. Same with monster truck. “They deserve to be there”. This is a national broadcast. Not everyone that’s watching is an Oilers fan.

I like Gazdic actually. He is young and he will learn from this. Not everyone steps into this role being great. Sometimes you hit a big bump in the road, but I do think he is well-spoken and he will improve.


Sportsnet as a whole, however, needs to step up their game and make sure that nobody is waving pom poms for any team. It degrades everything about the show, especially the entertainment aspect. I dislike MacLean and I have started really disliking Friedman as well as he transitioned from "humble and insightful" to a bit too.. can't quite put my finger on it. I like Hrudey on the Panel. I couldn't stand Bieksa the player, but he is the panel at this point.


Gazdic is one of those interchangeable pieces at the moment. Everyone makes mistakes, and I do think a bit of time and seasoning will help him.

Probably won't be on the panel next year, but I don't think they kick him off now and throw him to the wolves.

Having said that, Gazdic is decent on the panel. I don't care much for Michaels call only because it's too intense for me. I don't understand why people get upset about who is favoring who on the broadcast or who is getting featured more. Like, I watch only the flames and know all about them so I don't need to see more Flames content. It's fine.

People get so butthurt that Gazdic is pulling for the Oilers. Why does it matter? This isn't politics and it's not medicine. Bias is good, even great! The whole point is to create storylines and narratives and get people engaged in the event. The list of people who watch hockey because they love hockey and not because of the storylines is really small. Hockey is entertainment and they absolutely should have storylines and the panel is there to help create them
