Wonder if the prosecutors in his other cases consider asking for an alteration of his release conditions now that he is a convicted felon. They should, if they were to treat him as any other defendant.

I worry that the national conversation over the next 5 months will be about whether or not this was a "politically motivated prosecution", meanwhile, hardly any attention will be paid to all the reasons why a 2nd Trump presidency would be an outright catastrophe, and even less attention will be paid to Biden's legislative achievements over the past 3 and 1/2 years.

Those 12 jurors deserve a ton of credit. I think the case was a slam dunk, but the pressure must have been intense. Former president who resorts to mafia tactics all the time and loves to rile and fire up his wacko supporters ... couldn't be easy. They've served their country well.
While I'm happy that he was found guilty, I'm not excited for how much further this might push an already polarized territory into further competition, bad-mouthing, and potential violence. Trust me, Texas is already full of F*** Biden flags and every other vehicle I see on the road has some sort of Trump sticker on it.

It's interesting, if Trump does win it could actually be doom for the planet, depending on your views of human caused climate change. The IRA (and Q45) have been amazing at incentivizing green energy transition. Trump would roll that all away. Hell i can imagine a world where trump incentivizes coal again (good for his WV voters...)

Add that to the likely effect he will have on tyrants invading neighbors, and I don't think it's much of a stretch to say his reelection could be the end of the world (as we know it, at least.)

So, today is a very, very good day.

This does have the feeling of pouring gasoline on a tire fire.

From my understanding, the answer is yes so long as they're not in prison and the state in which he is convicted says he can.

Can't own a firearm though.

Yup.

To me, the bigger picture is that it's possible to have a jury--in certain parts of the country--that can look look at a fairly cut-and-dry case and come to an appropriate verdict.

If there wasn't such a ####show of a judge down in FL, the even MORE obvious outcome than this one in the classified docs case would be a true slam dunk. That one is a joke and Trump has to be ####ting his pants.

No, his were federal charges. Tax evasion, making false statements, etc. From my understanding, someone being imprisoned solely for a Class E felony of falsifying business records in New York would be basically unprecedented. More likely would be something like a fine and a conditional discharge.

That places way too much credit / blame on Trump. He is the symptom rather than the cause. In his absence a similar tyrant would present similar risks.

GGG, respectfully I disagree. I think many other republicans would preserve Q45 and the IRA as they are DEVOUTLY america first policies that are leading to massive economic benefit and jobs across america. Trump already promised to roll it back separately from party platform, but also just because he doesn't want anything Biden to be on his plate.

I also don't believe the Russians have a more compromised asset in all US politics, so unlikely they would get the same freedom under any other candidate than they will enjoy with Trump at the helm. China may have been emboldened no matter what, but if Trump is elected it is a virtual certainty that Taiwan will cease to be independent. I also think what Trump will do to the middle east would be avoided by any other potential candidate not named Donald Trump.

All that considered, this is with the idea that the only lunatic that holds these positions capable of being elected president is DJT. We're not going to see President Ted Cruz, or MTG, or Mike Johnson.

But, how remarkable is it alone that a twice impeached convicted felon has even a remote chance of winning this election? This verdict is a step in the right direction, but I do agree that systematically we're still pretty ####ed with not a lot of light at the end of the tunnel.

So a twice impeached convicted felon can still run for the highest office in the land, and has at least a 50/50 shot at winning thanks to the electoral college. Astonishing.

If that doesn’t tell you all you need to know about the U.S. and their stupid archaic political system, I don’t know what does. What a f’n joke of a country.

You can't join the U.S. military with a felony on your record, but a convicted can be president.

What a f’d up system.

He can’t even get a gun licence.

He cannot be hired to work in the White House but can run the place.
