Ok, so that’s not equal. If a player doing one thing to contribute to a goal is equal to 17 things another player does to prevent a goal, those aren’t equal things of value, it means the goal suppression is 6% as valuable as goal creation.

That lottery rule is actually stupid IMO.
Should only apply to your own picks.
If you trade for a pick, and that pick happens to win the lottery, then you should get that pick.

It is. The limitation is attached to the team, not the pick.

20 nickels is the same as 1 dollar; I'm agnostic about which I have.
Not sure if you watched the game, but Fabbro diving across the crease behind Saros last game suppressed a substantial portion of a goal. Defensive plays that lead to positive goal suppression aren't always worth less, but I hypothesize that they are generated more frequently with a lesser mean value.

LOL
Yes, 20 nickels equal a dollar, but that does not mean that earning a nickel is as hard as earning a dollar.
I think you've lost track of what you are even trying to argue. Scoring a goal is harder than suppressing one.

What would happen if we won the lottery this year then in 2026 both the Vegas pick and our pick won the lottery? Unlikely I know

It means that earning 20 nickels is as hard as earning 1 dollar. If I earn one nickel 20x as often as you earn one dollar, we are producing at the same rate.
A stick check, a block, a defensive rotation, a clear, forcing an offside - for someone who plays well, these things happen at a far more frequent rate as the end-to-end rushes that show up on TV ad nauseum at the end of the night.

Most of those 8 were still close to 50/50. Many teams get by just without players like that.
A good puck distributor can make average players have above average production, in a addition to their own. A goal scorer who doesn't distribute well isn't going to have as big of an impact alone.

I imagine it’s easier to shut down a goal scorer since you know what they’re going to do. A more versatile player has more options, and keying on them opens those other options more?

Except everybody who isn’t desperately trying to make a bad point work so they’re not wrong on the internet knows that goals are created from far more events than end-to-end rushes.

Canada is so incredibly dangerous off the rush. Sweden had a couple bouts of offensive zone pressure but everything is to the outside and nothing significant when they are entering the zone.
Iginla has an uncanny sense of space in the offensive zone. I've only watched a handful of periods of his play but he gets scoring chances regularly. He's a bit like Brett Hull in finding soft areas of coverage. Really promising. He scored a beauty top shelf goal on a wrister and then made a good play on the 4-0 goal by winning a battle in front for a loose puck and tipping it back to a defenseman jumping in who was able to slide the puck to Ryder Ritchie for a tap in.
The Canada-USA final that looks pretty certain now will be a hell of a matchup. McKenna and Hagens are both looking like future superstars that should be fun to watch play head-to-head.

Hopefully with the Vegas pick.
I mean I'll take it with any pick but the Vegas one would be extra sweet

I hope and pray that if we don't win the lottery that Iginla is there for us at 9. This kid is going to be a star just like his old man.

I'm still not convinced. I think he will be a very good player and maybe he does become a star but for me given he projects as a winger at the NHL level I am hoping he gets selected before we pick. There are many really good players in this draft and if Iginla goes before we pick I think it's better all around. It drops a higher ranked player at D or C down a spot, it takes the pressure off the player to try and live up to his dad's legacy, and it doesn't put Conroy in a position where if Iginla is still on the board but they like someone else better they don't feel like they have to draft Tij which I think they 100% would do. I really feel like the Flames need to come out of this draft with one of those D or C unless that winger is Demidov somehow.

What if the center is helenius? You’ve talked about your hesitancy when it comes to his upside
