3 hits, 15 strikeouts.
Do the Dodgers get cute taking their reliever out with one out left like Schneider did? Nope.
If you're looking for a HR from the bench, why not Voeglebach? Again, what he is there for? It's all for swinging out of his shoes.

It's utterly remarkable how far the Jays bats have fallen from just two years ago.

I don't see the Jays paying a replacement level 1B $20 million again next season, and Bo will also be one year from free agency and doesn't seem interested in staying in Toronto.
They're likely stuck chewing on the rest of Springer's deal, but luckily there isn't any other bad contracts on the books.

Yep, that's how I see it, too. Time to close the book on this rebuild and core and start a new one with new management and new vision. It sucks timing wise and honestly I could see Rogers fighting it because they just spent $300mil on renovations and want the stands full, but it has to happen.

I honestly don't think I've ever disliked a Jays team as much as I do right now. Even in those lean years there was always something to cheer for. Home runs, likeable players, Johnny Mac, O-dawg, etc etc. But this version is just like if your kid for dropped out of highschool to pursue music. Just so bloody disappointing.
If they get swept and lose a couple against the Royals I'd think Schneider and Martinez are gone by the off day. Have Mattingly and Hale take over those respective roles. See if a new manager gives them a push. If not. Sell off the likes of JT, KK, Kuch, any veteran with expiring contracts that a contender may like. And then Can Atkins. See if a new GM can retool the last year of Vlad and Bo and then start the firesale.

After the Flames season I was so happy that I could at least look forward to watching some Jays games this summer. What a dud so far. Just hope there are changes soon or the team figures things out, they should not be this bad at all. Maybe not an elite team, but not a team that doesn't lead a game for 37 innings bad either.

What a disaster.

I'll disagree about the lean years, they were terrible with nothing to look forward to.
This team has one of the best pitching staffs in the league, but they are going to waste. Decent outfield players who just have zero confidence at the bat, and the stars the Jays have hitched their wagons too, seem to be regressing.
Unfortunately, even though he's made his share of mistakes and he's also been given no new weapons, the manager will pay the price at some point probably in May if the 500 record lingers. MLB manager experience could pull teams out of a funk but the complete lack of confidence from supposed top players, but Schneider, like Montoya, doesn't have that.
Mattingly and Hale along with Walker would be an easy transition, but a different approach and voice. That will do for the short term of this season.
I think Atkins in a move of desperation as he hopefully winds down his tenure (he will last the season) would be able to spend at the deadline, but the Jays have to be in range of a WC spot at that point.

I said since the lousy off-season this team is no different than the Riccardi days, whereby some exec markets that they secretly have the formula in the mix of guys there, that don't have a track record of producing, but...moneyball. Atkins has been selling the same formula, just instead of moneyball, they're claiming defence wins, somehow. It's been a pathetic theory since day 1, and it's shown to be a wrong strategy. Even if they were to somehow make the playoffs I'll still say this strategy they have in place is flawed. I seen it coming so it doesn't hurt as bad, but with results like this how can people not call leadership a fraud when they keep rolling the same narrative that let's see when they roll how well they can do. Between spring training and now, the team is what it is, and to continue saying to wait it out is not genuine.

If they thought they had the "secret formula" on this roster right now they wouldn't have tried to throw nearly $700 million at Ohtani or been in serious trade talks for Soto.
They clearly knew the offense was a serious question mark going forward, but the problem is landing either of those two was very unlikely and after them all that was on the market was more serious question marks.

I know it's always easy to blame the GM or FO when thigs go badly, but I don't blame Atkins or Shapiro for this mess.
It's all on Vlad IMO. He was supposed to be Pujols or Miggy Cabrera and be the MVP bat that drives this offese, but he's flamed out spectacularly and there isn't much you can do to prepare for a disaster like that happening.
I mean yeah, it'd be nice if they developed more homegrown talent but they traded a lot of it to surround Vlad/Bo/Kirk/Springer with talent to win now, but then Vlad/Bo/Kirk/Springer all died on the vine at the same time.
Anyone who says they saw that coming is lying to themselves and living in a hindsight ruled world IMO
