"Fun" is probably the best way to describe it. Looking at WWI dogfight art there was a lot of opportunity to position the planes (it helped to hide some flaws, too). If I wanted to mix scales and work on my painting there'd be a killer project in there.

So the new trailer I have is pretty sterile inside, which they often are. I knew this going in and have enjoyed making it cozier/homier. It's a weird little trailer (Winnebago Hike 100). It's just 13' long, but sleeps four with a drop-down bed that's on hydraulics. It has a wet bath and some other unusual touches such as being a toy-hauler for ebikes and stuff with two huge doors that open up the whole back end and flip the seats into the wall so you can slide in kayaks, bikes, whatever. It's like a B van, but it's a trailer. Anyway, getting off topic here...

As part of giving this a more organic vibe and a nicer place in which to spend time, I really wanted to ditch the too-big table that was finished in that basic RV style that looks fine, but was too overpowering in such a small space. Surferguy made me this using a few neat methods that give it texture (you can see/feel the grain), finished it beautifully and there are undertones of, like, a eucalyptus colour that we've put in throughout the trailer versus just the blacks/whites/greys that it came with. These pictures don't super do it justice, but it has transformed the trailer from a neat space to the chillest, coolest little hang-out cave ever.

I appreciate the note Sliver - It looks pretty sharp in there. I am glad I could lend an assist for you on this project. I was happy to use it as an excuse to try out a brand new finish.

Here we have a little fishing boat in a bottle, complete with a fisherman casting a net. Basswood, cloth, a clay sea, a polymer clay fisherman and the net is some leftover window screen. It was an experiment that's going to be a gift for an unsuspecting person.

Thanks... as now I am looking at these trailers haha, what a great setup for a single/couple that takes up very little room.

Actually comfortably sleeps four in the SB configuration. There's a double bed above the seating area, which is also a double bed. The top one comes down on gas struts. It's the smallest trailer I've ever found with all the amenities and comfortable sleeping for 4. RV of the year in 2022 but the retail price meant limited sales, I think.

Another ship in a bottle, and there's some story behind it.

A few months ago, a friend of Mrs. Puppet lost her brother, who lived on a boat down south. Shortly after this when the plans for a memorial started forming, Mrs. Puppet suggested I do a project in tribute (I'd been wanting to do another ship in a bottle anyways, and this gave me a reason). Got some pictures of the boat and the brother, and made this with basswood and cloth. The figures are polymer clay, and were REALLY small and tough to sculpt. Mainly tough on my eyes.

The stand was a challenge since I don't have a lot of tools for hard woods, but I managed. The supports are parts of an old clothes hanger that I covered with some cording - more decorative than functional.

The memorial is this weekend, but I couldn't wait to show it off here. I hope she likes it.

I needed a break from ships, so I went back in time - finished off a stegosaurus last week. Gave me a change to experiment with paint techniques. Thanks to Jurassic Park, I always give my dinosaurs women's names, so say hello to Alice:

...and some bonus projects that I had to put on the back burner when I was putting ships in bottles. This is a Barbary Coast pirate ship in a sea of resin. This resin project was a lot less wasteful and far less messy than the last few. And not nearly as violent as you'd expect a pirate diorama to look (that's coming down the pipe...):

USS Princeton, an old Korean War-era aircraft carrier. Not terribly happy with this one, mainly because the scale (1:700) and the type of vessel (essentially a floating runway) don't lend themselves well to detailing. And I'm not even going to talk about the headache of painting planes that small:

Had to get away from ships for a while, but I couldn't stay away from the sea. Now terrorizing the shelves of Stately Puppet Manor...BLACKBEARD!

There's no gimmicks with this one for a change - he's more or less right out of the box. The challenges were to blend the skin tones, create a custom colour for his coat, and work on the ol' puttying skills. I think it turned out pretty good.

The only add-ons were the bits of cotton added to his beard - according to legend, Blackbeard would light fuses of hemp around his head during boarding to further intimidate his quarry.

Another project is coming shortly; unemployment is rough on the bank book, but the creative juice has returned:

As promised, that other project: From the "classic" film This Island Earth (and the equally-classic MST3K: The Movie) we have a Metaluna Mutant.

Possibly the greatest of the bug-eyed monsters of the 1950s, this friendly fella is 1/12 scale and is again straight out of the box. Just like Blackbeard, puttying and paint mixing were the challenges this time (his pants are a custom shade), and I think I managed to get some depth into his brain. Lots of seams on this guy, but the subject matter makes up for it. Beautiful in his creepiness:
