Anyone know if the Harry Hays building is open today? Someone told me they heard it was closed due to lightning strike. I've got a meeting there today and don't really want to paddle over there if I don't have to.

First make sure the overflows are hooked up and draining properly. Scoop / wick the water collecting outside the basement wall best as possible.

Found out Harry Hays is closed the hard way. $#%*. Came in early to go up there and get my passport. My umbrella broke about 3 minutes into my walk over there and my shoes were filled about 2 minutes later. Then surprise, surprise... building closed. I'm currently debating going to the mall and buying new pants/socks/boxers because the ones I'm in are drenched and the air conditioning blowing under my desk on my legs feels great. $@#**#$&.

I wonder if there will be water shortages this summer?
Crazy weather almost everyone seems affected in some way.
OUr dog service can't come around for our puppy so looks like there will be quite a clean up job for me later.

The worst part is when I got back to work everyone said "Oh, you didn't hear it was closed? It was all over the radio."

yeah, me too. i expected it though. my eaves are rough, but i think ive got it under control.

if you can, head off to home depot or zellers and pick up a wet/dry vac for ~50 - make your life a lot easier right now.

if you can, disconnect the barrels and allow the water to flow away as fast as its coming in

as the others have said, get some dirt or plywood or something to divert water away from that side, every little bit helps.

good luck

ps those glenmore pics and cars under water pics are NUTS

I gave up on trying to get to work today. I started out around 7:20 and got on D-foot at McKenzie Towne. It was an absolute crawl. Heard that Glenmore was closed at MacLeod and also heard that Northbound D-foot was closed at 16th. So I finally got off at Anderson and made my way over to 14th only to find myself stuck in traffic and not moving and inch for 20 minutes. So I gave up and turned south on 14th and just came back home for the day. I probably still wouldn't have been to the UofC if I waited it out.

Check out the photos on the Herald's website.

I didn't realize how bad the flooding was just down the street from me!

I was all excited to wake up and head to work because I play hockey at Noon today, then I checked my email and Norma Bush Arena is closed due to a sewer backup flooding onto the ice. So I'm staying home.

At least my power came back on late last night.

Thanks for posting the pics guys.

It took me the better part of an hour: gridlock on 17th before Sarcee Trail. Sarcee westbound towards 16th was fine (but gridlock south/eastbound towards Bow), but stopped dead along 16th from Sarcee to the Foothills Hospital. I wouldn't be surprised if a ton of university buildings aren't flooded today.

The airport apparently reported 74mm between 7:30 and 9:00 alone last night.

I'm still ticked that I missed most of the storm last night due to the STH meeting at the 'dome last night. I love a good storm. We got out and it seemed wet going down 11 Ave SW, but I didn't know the extent of the damage until we started listening to the radio. The pics I've seen so far are unbelievable.

There's water damage in the lower level of my building here at SAIT today, including the room that is supposed to be my extra storage space in the fall. I think I might be fighting for some upper-level storage now after this experience.

Drove to work at 6:15 this morning. All I had to do was avoid the lake at MacLeod and Glenmore and I was golden. Not a lot of traffic on the road and smooth sailing all the way.
