It’s not going to improve because there’s no reason to sign here right now besides money.

When we had Iggy and Kipper and Reggie, it was “come play with these guys”.

Gaudreau and Tkachuk and Gio, same deal - ####, Jaromir Jagr bought into that.

“Come play with Huberdeau Kadri, Weegar and Backlund”.

I’d choose Vegas too.

They have to draft the core first.

I suspect there are perhaps 5 to 7 thousand fans like that that are season ticket holders. There’s probably another 10 to 15 thousand who will buy a couple games a year
That leaves a lot of empty seats to fill for a few years
And I really hope you are right but it very well may take a decade

Hate to bring this up, but I'm referring to geographical/tax/economic factors like Tkachuck wanting to wear flip flops, Johnny wanting a better nursing program for his wife, and Hanafin wanting ______ being greatly exacerbated. I don't think Johnny thought Columbus was a cup contender.

We have already been offering better money and having guys walk, it's gonna get worse. (Including assets we are developing now)

Winnipeg seems to be the model to follow. They have to be the least desirable location in the NHL. They have had multiple star players want out but they always seem to get value back and end up better off. I was really hoping we could have snagged more than one teams A- prospect out of these trades. It is what it is though. Hoping Markstrom can actually get Mercer in the offseason it would be a good start.

But this is a city that packed the dome last year just to watch Bedard play junior. They love hockey as much as anywhere. Hockey is religion here
 |
Wranglers went a long way last year, they are still a good team, in the playoff hunt just a bit ravaged by the big club. A decent ticket price too for pro hockey. What’s their average attendance?

The corporate seats will be filled either way. Their actual problem will be getting the actual fans to pay NHL prices consistently.

Calgary is averaging 17500 attendance this season
Winnipeg is last at 13150, SJ 2nd last at 13500

Sure the Flames could fall into the 14000-15000 range next season if they are bottom 5 like I expect they will be , but that’s a drop of ~3000 tickets a game worse case scenario

People had already started to stop coming to watch this team before the rebuild .

The new stadium is coming and the worse case scenario IMO is to try and compete these next few years , have a bunch of 8-12 worse finishes , and then be forced into another /
True rebuild as the stadium opens

 Take the pain now .

Hopefully the city locked in that “can’t move for 30 years once we build you an arena”. Otherwise that arena deal will really look like a billion dollar boondoggle. Assuming they did that I think it would be very hard for the Flames to up and move.

Winnipeg has won 3 playoff series in a decade

They are actually very similar to Calgary in that they never had a true superstar

They have some very nice players , a very good to great goalie , but miss the true game breaking superstar

I suspect they lose in the 1st round this year .

And no one goes to see them play |

Seeing as someone mentioned Haiku's earlier, you just need 5 more syllables in the next line and you are set.

This is a great start, keep going.

My god people have lost their minds around here hahaha

The Flames start a rebuild (or god forbid a retool) , have traded 5 UFAs and lose 3 games to arguably the 3 best teams in the NHL and now people are worried that they will be moving the team shortly after the new stadium opens ?

Wow

I agree. All parallels to the Flames which is why I brought them up. But they get very good value when their star players want out. Getting something rather than nothing like years past is a great first step but we need to knock more of these trades out of the park.

Another game in the Blastys, another loss.
Dreadful record in those jerseys the last three seasons, and, from 1997-2005.
