The way the team is now, with no elite talent, I think it's going to take at least five years to find a 1C, 1D and 1G and become a contender. Not impossible in the next three but the odds are probably very low.

Oh I agree.
I mean that is Conroy is good, we aren't ending up with a snake on the face.

But I also think you're on to something with good shoes, sweatpants and a snake on the face. I know a market for that.

Next years draft probably has 3 guys (Hagens, Frondall and Misa) who project to be 1st line centers. There are two other centres in that draft (McQueen and Moore) who could be good. This years draft is stacked with dmen. If Wolf can play at the NHL level the Flames are definitely not 5 years from finding those pieces.

Plus the more lower draft picks they have the more likely they are to find a later round diamond - Point, Aho, etc.

You're assuming the Flames will land one of those and they all turn into what they project as their high ceiling. Most don't and some bust. Wolf hasn't shown anything yet except flashes, that's far from being a legitimate starter (look how long Saros played as a backup). If the Flames could even find an elite 1C in the next five years (how many years has it been since they had one?) that would be a huge step forward for the organization IMO.

In three years I expect this team to be full of Ahos.

Whoever we get can we please get some luck for once and not get another Bennett situation. And lock them up long term first chance you get too.

Well, yeah. Of course they might not get an elite centre, and their pick might bust.

Most of the elite centres I've seen hit their stride within a couple years though. They will know a lot sooner than 5 years.

Make no mistake, this team won't look like this, and put this effort in, next year. This won't be a 3 year sink to the bottom until turnaround, it will be attempted sooner via some of that draft capital accumulated.

Whether it applies here, the point remains valid I'd say albeit utterly unrealistic.

This is a weird one.

I don't think the player 'dove' it looks like he just kind of slipped. On ice. Whilst wearing skates.

It does happen.

The Carolina player was probably just as astonished that the Refs called that as anyone else. I lay no blame on him. I dont think he was trying to draw a call, I think he just slipped.

They'll probably beat both Colorado and Vegas and then proceed to lay an egg against Montreal.
