These types of situations are why the Flames will never be a true contender.

Right...And what quality assets would you be referring to?

I think the plan is to play 4 below average goalies in net at the same time.

Overpaid for a BAD 33yr old goalie
Is Fitzgerald smoking crack? Now they have 4 goalies who suck.
*Slaps roof of Devils* This bad boy can fit so many mediocre goalies

NJD: Acquires a better goalie at a cheaper cap hit than Vladar at a cheaper price.

Holtz + 1st
Even if you don't love Holtz, do you not think a player who is playing minimal minutes and putting up some points in his first NHL season would blossom getting 1st/2nd line and PP time in Calgary??? If you don't like him flip him in a season or 2 and get the assets you want. NJ 1st very likely to be turned into a decent asset.
Very much doubt the Flames are getting a mid-round 1st rd pick for a 34 (to be 35) yr. old Markstrom this summer or anytime going forward, let alone another asset with significant offensive upside.
Just doesn't appear the Flames are committed to creating a contender and look to be again content being middle of the pack and brining in the odd first round playoff income for ownership.

Why the drama? Conroy has kept just word about not letting guys walk for nothing.

There's a good chance that the market will be better next season and if we make the playoffs with Markstrom it's a win-win.

This was always the most likely outcome as I have maintained all along, it was going to take an overpayment for him to move. we should not ignore the message this also sends to the players still on this team who have been playing well and fighting like hell to still make the playoffs, the GM believes in you and wants to give you a shot at making the dance. The market will still be good come the offseason and there will be more teams with room available at that time.

Actually as I reported the other day Vladar was unlikely to move as the Flames still think he has starting goalie upside and they will almost certainly move Markstrom in the off season. I think if someone had offered a 2nd the Flames would pivot on that but the offers from my understanding were very weak on Vladar. You keep Vladar and tandem him with Wolf and you don't have to spend money or assets on bringing in another goalie once Marky moves.

It's a great silver lining.
With lot of the veterans and leadership group from the past regime having been shipped out, this group knows its their team now. No more distractions for the rest of the year, and have an excellent goalie at the helm to give them confidence.
If someone had told me when Conroy was hired that on TDL day 2024 we would have been successful in moving out all 5 of our UFA's and still had an 18 % chance at playoffs I would have been pretty happy with that.

Lol why don’t you tell us how great Conklin is again? Sorry you have 0 room to even pretend to be a good evaluator of goalie talent. Also isn’t the draft pick a 3rd that can turn into a 2nd? You putz lol.

Congrats on your worst post yet.
Vladar @ 50% retained $1.1mil cap hit vs $1.925
Vladar is 7 years younger
Vladar has more wins in less games this year
Jake Allen was traded for a 3rd that likely will be a second after Vanacek was just traded.
If that's your example of some crazy Flames fan's trade proposals you are really coming up short.

Over the last 3 years Jake Allen has a +ve GSAx while Vladar is around -15.

If the team is able to claw their way into the playoffs, then Markstrom's value is only going to go up.
Also, it likely means we knock out the Knights or Preds. Knocking out the Knights after this deadline would be an amazing outcome to the season.

Who the hell is Conklin?
The pick can turn into a 2nd if Allen plays 40+ games next year and the team makes the playoffs. If Jake Allen at 2 mill provides 40+ starts and a playoff trip he'd be worth a 2nd.

3 years ago Vladar was 20. 3 years ago Allen was 30.
Tell me - what's Vanacek's numbers over the last 3 years?

Just went and listened to his press conference, and yeah he does in fact say this. So NJD is still very much a player for Marky come this Summer.

Markstrom is their #1 target.
They'll be back after the season is over.
