So they can probably trade Markstrom for less in the offseason or ride him to giving away the Flames pick next year?
Flames going to Flames.

Angry posters - remember like 2 days ago when there was rumours of all the stuff Hanifan was going to bring back in the trade with Vegas and then the return ended up less.
You now getting angry at a team for not accepting a rumoured offer that you've again made up in your head.

Flames going to playoffs! Let's Go! Book it!
This TDL has been so underwhelming it's not even funny!

If the deal didn't go through even after retention was made optional, then the return wasn't deemed good enough.
If they accepted that Vegas package for Hanifin but walked away from whatever the last NJ offer was, then it must have been terrible.
Even sec confirmed that from his POV it was no good.
I trust Conroy's judgment.

Why re-evaluate your own expectations when you can just be disappointed they didn’t come true every time they inevitably don’t?

They said months ago they’d only trade Markstrom if they were blown away by an offer.
Clearly they were not.

It sounds more like Conroy was cool with a trade, and that Maloney/Ownership sewered the deal. Which shouldn't surprise us, we know that Sr. Management/Ownership does this here.

If this was a pending UFA we were talking about (see: Hanifin) and you don't get the homerun package you want it's probably still worth taking the best offer instead of letting him walk for nothing.
But Markstrom has 2 years left and we know there will be interest in the summer, or we can move Vladar and run Markstrom/Wolf the next couple years.
Having the ability to be patient is key. I'm happy Conroy didn't take an offer he thought wasn't good enough from NJ just because.

always thought Vladar would be the odd man out, makes way more sense to have a Markstrom/Wolf tandem. Just have to bite the bullet and probably waive Vladar instead of pretending like he has value

I asked this before - I don't know of any deal that owners have "sewered" before.
Apparently they missed out on Zucker because of a lack of communication (good luck as it turned out). They approved a Gaudreau deal that Gaudreau backed out on. They've OK'd 5 UFA deals this year.

I think a lot of fans thought this way and it was just the NJ thing that made everyone lose their minds. We're back to situation A and people should try to recapture how they felt about that.

Did Conroy stand his ground or did he get layered by Murray Edwards on a trade he wanted to make?
Based on Markstrom’s and Dreger’s recent comments balance of probability leans pretty heavily to option 2.
