It's a tale as old as time of a player with a career high shooting % scoring at unsustainable marks that he won't reach again.
Heck you've got 2 more of them on your roster in Mangiapane and Kuzmenko, still waiting for Mangiapane to get back to shooting 19% and Kuzmenko to get back to a consistent 27% eh?
Oh lord the Coleman one is gonna be brutal too. 32 year old with a career shooting % of 10% suddenly starts potting 17%.

New Jersey is 100% a dump, how about that?

I can understand you preferring other goalies to Markstrom, given his age, but your present valuation of him is completely disconnected from reality. This is backed up by a hyper inflated sense of Toffoli’s value and that’s where I see your bias lies. Anyways no more feeding the troll for me, later Fitz
|
I have never denied how excellent Markstrom has been this year. The concerning things are his age, inconsistencies over the last 4 years, and contract. That 3rd year especially when he'll be 36 is a significant negative in my eyes.
Frankly the term at 6 mill adds minimal value to me. At 3 mill it does become quite interesting tho

Clearly you haven't dug into Sharangovich's career numbers if you
think he is on some insane heater. Maybe a couple percentage points high, but not close to what you seem to be trying to spin.
Also interesting that you seem to know the future and that he will be walked right to UFA and not re-signed or traded.
You are really grasping at straws here.

I think most of us expect about 40 points and good 200 foot play and mentorship. What Coleman is doing this year is just a bonus.

You can call Halak, Ott, Stewart a net 0 wash approximately, none were very meaningful assets.
But again, if you want late 1st+2nd round prospect+3rd for 1.25 mill retained Markstrom, be my guest.
And again, goalie values have only gone down as teams have gotten smarter

Looks more like NJ gave up on a talented scorer in a statistically unlucky year.
3.5% higher shooting percentage from 2023 to 2021 is a jump for sure, but it's not an insane heater like where we've seen guys shoot at 28%.
He's a talented goal scorer.
|
The concern is his expected goals at 5v5:
14 in 2021, 13.3 in 2022, 8 this year.
11.9% in 2021, 17.6% this year.
He is a good player. Strong middle 6er. I have never denied that. I am saying he isn't any better now. There seems to be this misconception that he's improved.

You think Backlund has Calgary on his NTC list? Cause you listed him. It is alright to not know how many NTC’s and NMC’s are on Jersey. We all make mistakes, you have been making them throughout this thread.

He already scored this amount of goals in NJ, so I’m not sure where you’re coming from that it’s not a repeatable skill for someone at that age. If he fires 70 shots from the neutral zone to get his S% to a normal number would it make you feel better?

Now do that for Markstrom’s GSAE by year.

Backlund was on the list as one of the players to request a trade out of calgary.
It was a list of players who didn't want to resign or requested out. Hence toffoli, Lindholm, Hanifin, Tkachuk, JG, Zadorov, etc

The Flames are trading with Jersey, even if it is your package it would be a potential top 10 first round pick, not a late first.

The former was directed at dgibb10.
The latter was for you. Can we see the same type of analysis for Markstrom?

Yegor is a good player. Always liked him. I was hoping he'd broken out in a new situation. I looked into it more and it's the typical shooting% heater that leads to a player being overrated. None of his other metrics are any different.
|
You just called the highest scoring D man in the OHL and a guy scouts are are referring to as Adam Fox of the North as as just a prospect and not how special he is. You proved you really know nothing.

When was this requested trade from Backlund. Maybe it made the newspaper in Newark but I don’t recall it.

No one cares. Our team has lost or moved out 85% of our best players and we’re still better than the Devils.

Post season last year. Wasn't until Sutter was canned that it went away. He's not wrong on this point.
