That's painful. Conroy could have moved the team forward with that deal in a big way.

The Baba Yaga should become Conroy’s nickname if he can pull off Hanifin and Markstrom trades before the deadline.

Baba Yaga is a supernatural creature in Slavic mythology, appearing as an old or deformed woman

I don’t see Markstrom being moved until the off-season. We are barely outside of a WC spot. Personally, sell Hanifin, get a decent vet RD with Kylington, and play out the season. If we don’t make it great, if we do, even better. Markstrom will be moved regardless. I’m happy with the way we’re playing, even with the players getting moved.

In the Wick Universe Baba Yaga is the Boogieman, and thus also what people call Wick.

"Barely outside of a WC spot" is a generous statement. We are 3 points behind the Blues and Kings while they have 2 and 4 games in hand, respectively. Even the Preds have a game in hand over us. The Oilers have 5 games in hand, which makes sneaking into a divisional spot even less likely.
I highly doubt that our position in the standings is the reason that Markstrom is not traded. The only real reason is because Conroy does not receive a trade offer that meets his requirements to pull the trigger.

Blues, Kings, Flames and Kraken have all played 60 games.
Preds have played 62.

Not sure which standings and schedule you’re looking at.

I agree with paragraph 2, but what is going on in the first paragraph? What site were you trying to use for your standings?

I'm trying to figure that out too... must be going off of memory from a different night?
As of 7:00pm tonight (Sunday March 3), the last two wild card spots are the Kings and Predators. Kings have played 60 games and the Preds have played 62 and they both have 72 points. The closest two teams are the Flames and Blue who have both played 60 games and both have 65 points. Unless they're doing new math, that's 7 points out.
Kings - GP 60 / Pts 72
Preds - GP 62 / Pts 72
-------------------------
Flames -GP 60 / Pts 65
Blues - GP 60 / Pts 65

Vegas probably should be in the discussion as well, especially since they've only won 4 games since the all-star break.
Vegas - GP 61 / Pts 73

It's funny how so many people (myself included) thought that Brunette wasn't the straw stirring the drink in Florida, but he is definitely getting the most out of that Preds roster right now.

That would be a better return than any of the UFAs (assuming the pick was a 1st) so I wonder if they're fixated on someone else like Mercer or maybe they just don't see a big ceiling in Holtz. Also depends on if the 1st is this year or next. This year the pick could be pretty high if they continue to struggle. Next year I could easily see Jersey being a top team if healthy and Marsktrom is playing well.

Yup, I thought he was the straw that stirred the drink in NJ too. I was really hoping he was going to be our next head coach.

I think New Jersey is too far out to gamble on anything to make the playoffs this year. Missing the playoffs and not having a 1st this year would probably be a disaster for management, not to mention the fanbase. If it were to be a 1st, I would think it would be next years.
