Lindholm already in full blown playoff mode!

Imagine if he accepted the contract Conroy reportedly offered? That would have been fireable if he re-signed.

Smoke is everywhere in Vancouver, it seems. When a guy like Dhaliwal changes his views and says that he used to think Pettersson would sign in Vancouver "until now", you know it's serious...

Smoke to what, exactly? It's the exact same place we were a month ago. Two months ago. Three months ago. Pettersson doesn't want to talk during the season. He's sticking to that. The Canucks aren't shopping him, they still believe they can sign him. There is frustration that there is no movement, but is that frustration with the player or frustration with the #### storm that is going on because of it? But the longer this goes, the more room there is that something changes. Like I said in another thread, if a team comes along and gives you a Flyers for Lindros offer, you take it.

IMO this is all posturing in an attempt to maximize his next contract. I have no doubt he will sign a long term deal with the Canucks.

Sure thing, sounds just like Gaudreau.

This, Pettersson said no talks during season and he wanted to see the direction Vancouver was going. I'm guessing the direction issue is resolved and they will talk in off season.
If he isn't re-signed to a long term deal by start of next season then there is an issue.
Pettersson seems like a pretty serious guy and if he says something he means it, no talking during season mans no talking during season.

They have another year to worry about this. I don't see the issue with not talking contract right now. To me, the issue for Pettersson is it 8 years or 3-5 years like Matthews. Does the math work out better to do a 3 and then an 8 year deal or vice versa? Signing an 8 year deal at 28 might be more attractive than trying to sign a deal at 33. Of course injuries can be a factor so then you flip back to the 8 year deal.

If it is about money he stays in Vancouver.

Didn't mean to upset you as we went through this with Johnny and Chucky so I understand it, but I noticed the change in Dhaliwal's tone when mentioned that he was certain Pettersson would extend the whole way, up until now where he is no longer sure. He's the one guy that is clearly linked in with the org. and agents, and it seems like a big change. The good thing is he did say he has not heard this explicitly from anyone and sounds like it's just his feeling. Perhaps some of the noise about Lindholm being their backup plan is correct.

I'm not upset, more so I am making it clear that there are no rumours or expectation that he isn't going to sign. There's nothing to the opposite either. There just isn't anything. The Canucks are getting frustrated because the off-season plans are going to hinge on what he signs for. They're getting frustrated because the media is going wild with this. But the Pettersson was clear at the start of the season: Nothing during the season and he's sticking to that, even if the team has checked every box he put out there at the start of the year. Dhaliwal's opinion changing isn't a "I think he's leaving" that you think it is. It's a "I don't know anymore" because he doesn't, but also he never did. He is just as in the dark on this as every one else. And like I said before, it isn't just about Pettersson not signing. It's now also about does someone make an undeniable offer for Pettersson? There are suddenly more avenues for Pettersson to leave than there were three months ago and some of them are the team making a decision to not wait on him to make up his mind. This was not something people anticipated last year.

As for Lindholm being a plan B, that was a ridiculous notion when two sports radio dweebs put it into the world with no proof. There was Halford and Brough spitballing. That was it. Lindholm is not a "Plan B". What you move Pettersson for is the Plan B. Lindholm was the Canucks deadline acquisition target since early November when the Flames stumbled. He was the Trade Deadline Plan A. Not "If Petey Leaves" Plan B. He's too old and asking for too much while not being a play driving center. A marvelous defensive center, but not what you replace Pettersson with.

The Canucks know they only have one major mistake they can make in this situation and that is walk Pettersson to UFA. They can make a bad trade, they can sign a bad deal, but neither of those are as devastating long term as walking him to free agency.

Welcome to the little house of horrors we've been living in for the past two years with our players.

It is apart of sports. We've gone through it with Naslund, Bertuzzi, the Sedins, Luongo, Kesler, Boeser, Horvat, Miller and down the line. Of all of them, only Horvat left during this negotiation period. It was with this management group and they did exactly what they needed to do: Not walk him to free agency.

Same thing here.

Loathe to double post, but, it sounds like a Pettersson deal is coming to fruition rather rapidly.

Sounds like the team went to him and said "We understand you didn't want to talk in the season to avoid a #### storm, but that in and of itself caused a #### storm, so can we.... like just do this?"

And Pettersson agreed.
