Seems like Boston maybe the front runner for Hanifin, but the Flames would have to retain the max. That may benefit the team and put them in a really good position to maximize the return. Obviously no 1st rounder in play, but maybe Matt Poitras and Mason Lohrei for Hanifin would be a good grab for the Flames. Both would be ready to take a position on the squad almost immediately and fill important positions. Flames really need to focus on finding some skilled guys to play in the middle and Poitras would be a good start.

I also could see Conroy pushing hard for Poitras plus 2025 protected 1st that could slide to 2026. Hopefully by then the bruins start to decline, spread the first rounders over multiple years as well rather than loading up only this year.

Poitras had season ending shoulder surgery; Frederic would have to be part of a package coming back IMO especially considering their lack of draft capital.

Tampa already needed a defensman, and after Sergachev went down they are pretty desperate not to waste a season. Their best prospects are Howard and a rejuvenated Dylan Duke. Both for Tanev?

They are not trading Frederic right now. Especially for anything other then an upgrade at center.

Bruins do not control their 2025 1st rounder. There's conditions attached to it already. The first clear 1st they can trade is 2026.

Tyler Bertuzzi. If the 2024 pick is top 10 then Bruins can send the 2025 pick instead.

Bruins 2024 pick will not be top 10. They’ll have their 2025 first rounder.

But not for the purposes of this trade deadline, only after they are out of the playoffs.

2026 first is even better in my opinion. Spreading out the extra picks over multiple years helps make sure our own prospects aren't blocking other guys and spreads ELCs out over a longer period. Also, at some point the ancient bruins have to come crashing down, right? Maybe that's in 2026 and that pick ends up being much better.

I mean, even if they're not keeping playtime down from a risk perspective, these don't scream untouchable from NJ POV... let's hope all that smoke delivers

You can trade the same pick twice, Florida did to us. You just need to have conditions in case the pick does not go to the second team in line.

They can trade the 2025 first rounder with a condition that if it transfers to another team, we’d get the 2026 first rounder.

Hopefully hanifin hasn't narrowed the flames down to just boston. poitras and lohrei are solid but overall bostons prospect pool is pretty poor. Going from dreaming about mercer or holtz for a 34 year old goalie to talking about weaker prospects for a top 4 dman in his prime is a bit of a downer after the excitement of the week.

Boom all we can do about it. If that’s his play he’s earned the right to narrow it down. If we get more from Boston because that’s where he will extend, we do it. Someone want to pay more on a rental, that’s fine too. Max the return is the goal. Boston less than ideal match, but they get him and can offer max term and get a playoff run, which is probably incentive for them to do a deal.

What contract are we taking back from Boston?
Boston needs to find $7.5 million in space.

Why aren’t we concerned about OK being a UFA this summer?
