The best player on that list is Makar and he is 12th behind some players who are good but not great players. There is too much emphasis that is placed into some of these seemingly educated opinions by fanbases.

The list is just fine.
Using Makar to support your argument doesn't pass the smell test. 7 years ago he was playing in Brooks against vastly inferior competition.

Any scout that's good at their job could see that he was a generational talent. I know I called it a full year before he was drafted and I'm just a regular hockey fan. I was hoping the hockey world would stay blind enough that the Flames could draft him since he was projected to go in the second or third round at the start of the year.
Maybe I should be a scout?

Maybe you should be!
The dumb dumbs that draft in the WHL let him slide to the 8th round.

Thanks! I'll make sure to use you as a reference.
It does look like you had to go pretty far back to form an argument though. Makar has proven that me and many other regular hockey enthusiasts were correct in viewing him as a top 1st rounder before he was ever recognized as one. You and the WHL can't really argue that I was wrong. The list is pretty bad.
I believe the real crux of the issue is that certain teams will always have less hype than others regardless of talent level. The Flames have Zary pushing for recognition, but the NHL needs their faces rubbed in his success before he's even a part of top 10 Calder lists. Makar played in the AJHL so it took some extra time for scouts to take him as seriously as he deserved. Bias plays a part and some teams will always be ranked lower simply based on geography. If the Leafs had the Flames' prospect pool, it would likely be rated 5 spots higher than it will be.

You are missing the point. Using Makar as support for the argument that the list is bad is fundamentally flawed.

Saw HB live during this supposed “cold streak” that he is on. He did not get any points in that game but made two defensive plays, one of which that prevented almost a sure goal. A nice play on a 2 on 1 to break up an almost certain back door goal and then he made another play where he got a stick down on the PK to block a pass and get the puck down the ice.
When I watch him (seen him only twice and really only watched him once) he reminds me a bit of Weegar. May be the RHS but he is all over the ice, not necessarily always where you think a dman should be. Seems to read the play quite well, jumped up in the game I saw a couple times and created odd man rushes. Definitely makes a good first pass, I was about 4 rows up for the game I saw him and he made about 8 nice breakout passes to get the Rangers out of the zone. If he found another gear with the skating I think he could be a very good player, he is definitely more toolbox than tools in that regard, which could be a good thing.
That is my one game scouting report on the guy.

You do you, but your agenda here is pretty obvious.

I always get a kick out of someone doing something obvious, but thinking they are holding serve by just denying it.
We all see it.
Denying it doesn't make it any less true.
Reminds me a bit of someone we put out to pasture recently.

How would you know how often I visit this site or that I rushed over?
You think asking a poster to pump the brakes on the Makar comparisons is odd?
If my opinion bothers you so much, tell me and your fellow Flame fans why you don't think the Makar comparison is unrealistic.

Sure it is a good list for that time but what I'm saying is two things, first the opinions of some of these writers who rely on press clippings and video isn't worth that much. Also the rankings are very faulty when it comes to being able to determine which player will be better in their overall career. It is similar to the hockey news back in the day when they ranked Jani Rita to be the best prospect in hockey. I just wouldn't put much weight in it overall.

Come on now, your entire posting history for the last 10 years (it’s not a big one) is attempts to pour water on former Canucks (Bruz, Tanev, Markstrom) and wish-they-were-Canucks (Tkachuk). That’s literally it. You don’t post in threads that don’t have some connection to the Canucks and in them you spend the entire time trying to undercut players you wish the Canucks had.
You said Tanev would become the Flames “Loui Erickson” LOL.
I don’t think anyone cares since you’re just going to vanish until the next time the Flames trade for or sign a Canuck, but do everyone a favour and don’t treat us like we’re too dumb to know your schtick.

Get your facts straight.
I've been a member of this site for 20 years, maybe math isn't your thing?
I've never posted about Tanev or Markstrom and my comments about HB were to temper expectations and to call out the Makar comparison.
And I don't vanish whether it be on this board or my home board, I just read more than I post.
Something maybe you should consider?

So easy-

The guy I worry about is Tanev who could become the Flames version of Loui Eriksson especially when you consider a flat cap for maybe the next 2 or 3 years.

Yeah, and I was talking about the last 10 years. Maybe reading ain’t your thing.
I do love getting my facts straight, though.

Hughes elevated the play of Tanev, not to mention Luke Schenn who was paired with Hughes in his first season...
Actually I'd prefer Schenn over Tanev even before considering the contracts.
|
I left the part about Schenn in because it makes it even funnier.
The last 6 threads you’ve posted in:
- Elias Lindholm trade to Vancouver
- Flames sign Markstrom
- Flames sign Tanev
- Kassian suspended for attacking Tkachuk
- Vancouver is No Good
- Baertschi trade to Vancouver

Flames Nation revisited their summer prospect list with some thoughts on where the players are and where Hunter Brzustewicz and Joni Jurmo would slot into it.
