This is what I ended up doing. Found a coffee shop to work, checked out their library, and then ate some lunch at a family restaurant. It actually turned out to be a decent little day.

Annoyance can be a marketing tactic. For every guy who swears he won't step in that store because of the commercials (I'm one of them), there's probably 5 others who will go there because it's the first name that pops into their head. I imagine when it comes to jewelry, most men are pretty lazy and go with the path of least resistant.

I believe they are quite a bit cheaper than the other stores in town.
Do you have an issue with lab grown diamonds?

I just hate the hard sell:
“gotta buy that diamond to lock down that partner”
For every god damn holiday, Christmas, Valentines Day, Talk like a pirate day etc. It’s a non stop barrage of you need to buy this to make your partner happy. It’s so annoying

I usually only do costume jewelry for talk like a pirate day. Still fun, and way cheaper. Figure on spending a buck an ear max.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spence's new marketing campaign is with what appears to be a growing number of jewelry store mob thieves in Ontario (and maybe elsewhere) where a gang of people swarm the stores and smash the cases and take everything from inside.

I think they have a policy where if you want to upgrade your diamond at a later date they give you full credit for the original purchase price of your previous diamond. I’d imagine that probably appeals to a lot of people, although I’m not sure if any other retailers offer that.

If someone does a cover of a song like, recently, “Fast Car”, does Luke Combs basically pay all of the proceeds from it to Tracy Chapman? I remember hearing when Men at Work had to pay a ton of money just for copying the tune from the “Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree” song.

They've done the fake diamonds in the display cases for many years.

Yes, but the fact that they are marketing this in their radio ads suggests at least to me that this may be why. Of course, if they marketed that before, I don't recall.

It has been marketed that way forever. I actually think it is a pretty good idea. Plus, five finger discount and the (now) wife has been none the wiser.

Oh yeah, a cover is 100% to the original writer. Artists do it either because they love a song and want to cover it or because their label wants them to do a cover as loss leader as it can get millions of plays and get their name out there.

That’s not entirely true. It depends on the country but in the U.S. songwriters get more like 50% of royalties. Someone like troutman could clarify the rules for Canada.

Somebody tell me about “Uncrustables”. Do people actually buy these? They seem like the biggest scam product in the world. Am I missing something here? Are they not just PB & J sandwiches with the crust removed? If so, I can’t believe there is grocery store space allocated for them.

Honestly, I go through about a box of those a week. But I do chuckle at how hilariously lazy it is to be buying premade PB&J.
Sure are good though

I just saw a Genesis G80 and since I was in the area Sliver works in (I’m guessing) I thought it might be him. But then a St Bernard stuck its head out of a back window. Definitely not Sliver.

I get enough strange looks for my "I Voted for Kodos" bumper sticker.
