Where's the best place to get older money appraised?

I have a 70 year old $100 bill in pretty much mint condition that I'd like to know the value of. I asked the coin and card place in West Edmonton Mall when I was up there, and it all depended on the date and the serial numbers.

Any ideas where I should go for this information?

There is a coin shop in a mini-strip mall on the corner of center street and 14th avenue SE. They could probably help you out or point you in a better direction than I could.

I guess they have a website as well...

http://www.calgarycoin.com/index.html

Looks like they only deal in old coins though.

I know that there is a book that you can get (they've had it at the Coles in TD) that lists the value of Canadian currency . . . I can't remember what it's called . . . I'll ask my sister and let you know.

Also, there is a guy that sometimes appears on BT that has done some segments on currency value. He has a website and may be able to help or point you in the right direction. Brian Lehman

I am not an avid collector but I do check my change every so often..

Anything I find that is older then me I keep. All my american coinage is kept in a separate container as well as any foreign stuff I come across.

My best piece is probably a 1947 NFLD penny...That and a few 80 year old american coins...

Probably worth nothing right now but its not costing me anything either...

The search continues..

According to my fancy calculations, while including a rate of inflation of approximately 2% your antique $100 dollar bill is now worth approximately $25.

The time value of money operates the other way my friend, you're to supposed to invest the money and then wait for it to increase in value.....

I recall years ago I was working the front desk of a hotel, and the girl working the lounge came up to me with all of these "weird" coins and a customer wanted to use them to buy beer(s). I told her what the face value of them was, and that I would cash them out for her as to not to screw up her til with things like 50¢ pieces.

She came back and said that the guy claimed they were worth a lot more than face value, and I told her to tell him that we were not a coin collector shop, and if he wanted to get more than face value for them he should go to a coin dealer. To my surprise she gave me the coins to change out for her.

We were right beside a police station, so after work I went in and told them what happened; just in case anybody filed a complaint about missing/stolen coins. I never heard anything about it. I suppose I should see how much those suckers are worth now.

You are such an unreasonable man. The last time I tried paying my tab with gold dubloons and pieces of eight the bartender accepted them graciously and bought me a beer on top.....

I'd be warry about going to a place that presumably buys/sells this type of thing, because chances are they are gonna lowball you.

I wonder if there isn't a service somewhere that can tell you this type of thing, Like the becket (sp) for hockey cards does.

Edit: never mind, there is one above.

I don't want to sell it... I want to know how much it's worth. I bought a lot of older money at par, but that's my favourite piece, and would like to know how much it's actually worth.

If someone actually says $25... I'll be some pissed. But I also understand it's like art or hockey cards... you get what a collecter will give you, not how much it's worth.

Wouldn't it be worth at least $100- face value?

There used to be a booth of old currency and coin in the Blackfoot Antique Mall/Flea Market, kinda on the corner of Heritage and Blackfoot. My Mom has had him look at some bills and she was happy with the results.

I was joking about that, hence the 'fancy' calculations...........

All I did was run a formula that calculated what $100 dollars 70 years ago is equivalent to in today's dollars after accounting for inflation if uninvested. Not what it was actually worth, because yes, its face value should still be valid.
