Absolutely. Could see him being the face of ROH and having implementation between their two brands having more cohesion. Totally out of left field.

John Cena is not WWE anymore? He just made a hilarious insta post about Drakes meat.

They’re doing some really great stuff, and it’s like asking WWE to stop NXT. Get over it.
Also, Dynamite was likely better than anything WWE has done on TV in a year. Have fun! It’s wrestling.

The CMLL guys have been pretty awesome. I like the idea of Forbidden Door being open to more promotions this year.

I mean, he's basically a copy & paste of John Cena circa 2006-2014 (albeit not as good on the mic as John was). Shouldn't be all that surprising that he's over.

It was actually a bit smart by the WWE TBH.
I wasn't the biggest Cody guy, and actually thought they screwed up last year since that should have been Zayn in the main event vs Reigns (and still think that).
But this actually got me cheering for him more than I ever would have because it really seemed like he was screweed.

It's nothing like asking WWE to stop a DEVELOPMENTAL brand that the TV show is the smallest portion of importance for what it is designed to do.
ROH is an entire promotion that exists without a TV deal. It's roster bloat and acting like a ####oo hatchling pushing actual AEW talent out of the nest so it can exist.
A better equivalent would have been WWE's frankenstein's monster version of ECW.
It had its time. Let it die. Keep the three or four guys who are worth keeping and let the rest whither away and die as nature intended.

John Cena was not over with everyone. You had dueling chants between fans because he was so polarizing.

The Rock is playing 4D chess over here. He's low-key being the hero that wrestling needs right now, now the one it deserves!

I think they might try to do Rock vs Roman and Cody vs Seth on night one and then they do the winners (likely Cody and Roman) on night 2.
Doesn't feel like whatever they are building is done yet

I think he was so polarizing mostly because of his cartoonishly over the top superman booking. Every match with the guy was him getting the tar beat out of him for 30 minutes before pulling out his 5 moves of doom and winning.
Their match styles are different, but from a gimmick and marketing perspective, I see big similarities between Cody and Cena.

That was a great piece of business! I'm not sure if they planned it from day one, but WWE has been doing great in rolling with the punches in recent years. Triple H (generally) knows what the fans want, and gives it to them. This is a huge improvement over Vince who gave us what he wanted (or what he thought the fans wanted). Bravo to WWE for manoeuvring through shark infested waters.
It also took everyone's attention off the Vince/Grant situation... which I'm sure is part of the equation. I'm shocked we're getting heel Rock in 2024, but he's leaning into it hard. Now that he's part of the board I'd expect he'll play a bigger role in the product going forward.
Also I caught up with Dynamite. Great show, it was the best of the year. I like the book with Swerve/Page... AEW likes to do the "draw", but it's like doing a DQ/dusty finish. I wish they would do a better job of telling us who these CMLL guys are, as they just randomly show up... but I won't fault the wrestling itself.
One thing I find rather ironic is Sting is going to officially retire without putting anyone over. He's now 27-0, and will likely win against the Bucks. He is officially God status in AEW. He'll be 65 in March and has never been beat. I know everyone loves Sting, and he is the consummate professional. He has made talent "look good", but always in victory. Sting fans were mad that WWE has him lose every match, now the opposite has happened in AEW. Someone on AARP will go 28-0, and will retire going unbeaten.
I know "wins" don't mean everything in wrestling, but they obviously matter. Nobody is going to remember how close Sting's wins were years from now. Generally the best way to put someone over as by taking the pin or submission. I know Sting is not like Hogan where he politicks behind the scene to avoid the loss... yet historically every single legend put "the future" over on there way out. Sting won't be doing that...

Darby should have beat Sting in his final match to close that part of the story for both men.
I know neither of them seemed to want that...but that's how it should have happened.
Although it is interesting that every single AEW match Sting had was partnered with Darby in some way...either just the two of them in a tag or with other partners in multiman tag matches.
