Season 1 probably the best single season cop show ever. Im rewatching and through the first 7 episodes.

There is a lot to cover in the last 3 episodes of S4 and really not sure how they hope to do it... and this is just character type stuff. Nevermind the main storyline, of which we don't know all that much more since the first episode.

S1 was excellent.
S2 was no good
S3 was very good
S4 is no good
Though it's probably fair to wait until the end of S4, it seems pretty clear to this point that waiting until the end is only to determine if it's the worst or 2nd worst season. And right now it's got a real shot at worst ov.

One thing to keep in mind about this season that is different:

Quote:
Initially, Nic Pizzolatto was directly involved in a fourth season of True Detective, but ultimately Issa López would be selected as showrunner, writing and directing the whole season. Pizzolatto would remain as an executive producer, marking his first season without a writing credit.[1]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Detective_(season_4)

I have noticed a few dialoug scenes that seemed really poor. But I'll wait until the season is over before casting judgment.

You can’t just have 55 mins of ambience and mystery. You need to start moving the story along already. I’m legit starting to get bored here. Like, okay, we get it, it’s dark, supernatural, like, what is the actual ####ing story here, move it along.

I’ll give it another 1/2 episode but if it’s the same #### I’m out. Tell a story. Otherwise don’t drag it into 5 episodes of useless fluff filler bs.

Are people actually so fickle over one not-so-great episode that they’re already considering pulling up stakes?

I must have been desensitized by the Walking Dead or something.

The whole show only has 3 more episode. I can't imagine watching the next one and then not bothering to watch the last 2.

Actually liked the last episode a lot more. Seemed overall to have better writing. Less shock value and more in line with the rest of the series.

To be fair, HBO hasn't been coming out with a plethora of zingers lately. This season is a pretty laughable

I probably preferred this to ep3, but a very strange change in tone and style (all the music montages??). And even the defenders have to admit some fairly sloppy stuff in this episode. The characters go from here, to there, and back again... all in the span of a few hours.

The Alaskan coast guard thing was pretty silly.

That said, Im still in.

My biggest takeaway from this season so far is I think we may owe season 2 an apology

Part of that, and purposefully done, is that you don't know what actual time it is. It's always dark, so it feels like they are starting work in the evening, but it could also be early in the morning. The writers are purposely messing with time and distance to add to the atmosphere of confusion.

Fair enough. But I think the show is worth finishing just to see how they further the plot from season 1. What I don't get is why they didn't do more stuff with the yellow king subplot in seasons 2 and 3. If they are building in the Lovecraftian supernatural elements, they missed a big opportunity to do that through season 2 and 3.

Im loving the setting and location of this season, moreso than any season so far. Ignoring how underdressed everyone is. Because yes, it would have been difficult to film every outdoor scene with every square inch of skin covered up.

Anyway, Im guessing the bizarre/aggressive nature of everyone is explained by some sort of poisoning courtesy of the Tsalal facility- and the supernatural stuff is a red herring. Or, more likely, some sort of spirit has been awakened and living in the ice, also causing everyone to act weird- and in some way has ties back to the Tuttle cult.

Vince Vaugn's character would say don't apologize for anything... even things you are sorry for.

Episode 4 saved the season for me. Finally some great story progression.

Not sure how they’re going to square the supernatural circle on this one but should be interesting.
