I used to go there too when I lived in Calgary. Was always happy with the job they did there. More than $20 is too much for a haircut imo.

Jim's Barber & Hairstyling.... Chuck Kobasew got his hair cut there... plus you can sit in a seat from the old Montreal Forum and talk hockey for a while when getting your hair cut. Does a great job as well at a reasonable price (something like $20 after tip).
He is just down on 19th Street NW.... great place... have gone there since I was two years old.

They're still there, they've moved up to new digs on the upper level near Sears. Just go into the NW Mall entrance, and they're right there. Still the same old school barbershop feel.

Seventy five bucks for a haircut! Wow. I thought $22 was alot. I just through a hat over top of it anyway.... or a touque in the winter.

Just my future planning as I get the feeling he may be retiring soon. Aside from that, I just like mixing it up every once in awhile.

Maybe its just me, but I get extremely uncomfortable when a male hairdresser cuts my hair at a salon. If it's a barber shop or a men's only hair place, then that's fine. I just hate going to a (presumtively) unisex salon and having a random male hairdresser ask me about my personal hygiene habits and relationship issues. I get squirmish, and its even worse when they charge me over 35 bucks for the damn cut.

The places that actually only take under $35 aren't professionals I could walk into one of those places and get hired on the spot without any school/experience. The girl who cuts my hair went to school after highschool and took cosmotology in highschool so basically she has 4 years of in-school training and nearly 8 years of experience in a salon. My experience with cheap hairstylists has been the exact same cut which is basically a trim no layers, no bangs, heck they don't even know how to razor your hair which is ridiculous. BUT if I was a guy I would NEVER pay more then $40...
|
Those are some expensive compliments.

I don't think its all that rare for a girl to spend $60-70 on a haircut. My mom, sister and girlfriend all do that. But also remember they get their haircut maybe 2-3 times per year as well, since they have long hair. I get mine cut about once a month. So 12 haircuts/year at $20 each costs $240/year. If a woman spends $70 three times a year for haircuts, she only spends, $210/year.

#4 using a $25 kit from Walmart, every 3 months, and I am good. Sure, I don't get many compliments, but it's only hair. Been doing that for about 3 years.

I'm with Flames09. Usually i go to Diva Salon just off 17th and end up spending $70 for a haircut. You don't even want to know what it costs when I decide to go all out on myself and get it coloured too. The difference between that haircut and what I used to get for $40 is huge. All that said, you can find gems in cheaper salons... everyone has to start somewhere.
