Look, the moral soapboxing and pearl clutching are as annoying to me as bottom of the barrel unfunny frat box comments.

Edit: you're from BC so I'm just going to assume you know the family and that's why you've taken the stance you have, not that you think making grand claims about ethics will change anyone's behavior online.

Hockey is a big part of Canadian culture, and unfortunately hockey culture has led to issues not just in the NHL, but among younger kids.

I mean to me that culture is being set at the highest levels, and there has to be some responsibility by the highest level on how they act. Canning a player without reason, making up a bunch of excuses of how terrible he is, then turning around and giving player chance with another team just reeks of old boys club.

Accountability for actions & transparency on what happened are important. When GM of new team basically comes out and says he's not aware of the issues, it makes the NHL look like a bush league.

In similar fashion, there are lots of stories among minor hockey where player / coach would be abusive with teammates or staff, then just go work for another team while everything he did would get buried.

Then a few years later down the road, more allegations and issues arise.

I don't get it.

I think at the end of the day the NHL needs a more clear-cut set of rules concerning the cancellation of contracts.

And furthermore, they need transparency in some capacity.

Look, I'm not saying that we as fans NEED to know what Perry did, its technically none of our business, but when you combine that with a 'Get Out of Jail Free' card, a new contract almost immediately...I think its only natural that people are going to ask questions.

No, I don't know the family. I was raised to be respectful of others. Obviously you think it's more important to shoot the messenger than to help change the culture. I'll drop the issue so you can commiserate with those who have no respect or ethics.

I recall people saying Treliving didn't do enough due diligence on Peters, which was a bad take because there's very little chance that any such review would have turned up an unreported event from his days coaching in the minors two teams prior.

But here we have a guy who was publicly fired for behaviour issues and a team that hires him and intentionally doesn't ask what those issues were.

One thing I know about addiction, it's that 8 weeks is more than enough time to kick it.

Pretty bold assertions about my character for someone I've never interacted with before!

Will I see you in Edmonton next to the local street preacher soon? Sure sounds like it!

I'm not going back to look for posts you have an issue with. Sorry that I don't read every post and commit it to memory.

I am not sure which thread this belongs in and I recognize both franchises have had their hiccups but what a difference in the values and decency of Edmonton and Calgary.

Calgary - amazing support for well over a year of a guy struggling with mental health issues.

Edmonton - sign Perry and Kane.

Never prouder to be a Flames fan tbh.

Without rumor-mongering I have a good account of what he did. Put it this way: it's a fireable offense in every other industry.

While this whole thread is full of half truths and some outright wrong information, I am still proud that the Oilers are willing to help players rehab and give them a second chance to get back on track. Kassian credits the Oilers for saving his life, Kane has been a model citizen since here. And Perry while only having one blemish on his off ice record will get a chance to redeem himself too.

but likely not something that in theory prevents you from working in the same industry at another company? With some form of disclosure and probation?

He was fired from his team, not suspended by the NHL. Those are different things. I continue to be confused about the level of confusion around this. It’s much more hilarious to focus on how Edmonton actually wanted to be involved with this guy after getting booted from his team.

Even then. It's behavior that public knowledge would be damaging to anyone who hired them.

But then...wouldnt you think that would be important knowledge to have?

"We hired this guy...turns out he's a serial killer."

- "Yeah, we knew that...we just decided not to tell anyone."

Yeah, that's more or less what I was assuming.

They should hire Graham James and help him get back into the game I guess.
