What surprised him when filming this season of Fargo in Calgary
It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. I thought it would be desolate. When you watch Fargo, you see the plains, the vast fields, and you’re like, Man, there’s got to be nothing to do out there. Then you get there, and people are nice. The nightlife is great. It’s one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The restaurant scene is insane. Some of the best restaurants I've ever been to in my life are in Calgary, and people don't talk about it! At least, I’d never heard anything about Calgary. It might be the best culture and restaurant scene in Canada, and I've been all over Canada. It feels better than L.A.'s food scene. Not better than Chicago or New York, but definitely in the top five out of the places that I've been all over the world. I was thoroughly shocked at how great the restaurants were.

Pedro Pascal and some actress who I can’t remember were talking about the food in Calgary on James Corden last year. I’ve read another celebrity or two’s comments on our restaurant scene as well. It surprised me.

There’s some great food places in Los Angeles, but the problem is they’re in Los Angeles. Worth staying for if you’re there anyway but not worth driving 3 hours round trip for. So you usually just stick to whatever is in your neighborhood to avoid going on the freeway.
Whereas in Calgary it seems like it’s 20 minutes to anywhere, so, much more convenient.

The Bennett pick and Monahan not staying healthy was the downfall of the past 5 years.
Those two things hurt more than Chucky and Johnny leaving the team.

Monahan and Bennett not becoming the needed 1-2 Center punch is why the teams 1st window failed. (That and the Neal / Hamonic acquisitions)
The team doesn't have a second window where pieces like Zary, Coronato, Pelletier could be added to the existing core because Gaudreau and Tkachuk left.
Think both are equally painful TBH.

Maybe could have worded it differently, hard to opine if the 2nd happens without the first.
The 1st is what set the events in motion.

Adam Fox refusing to sign hurt the first window, it hurt the second window, and it still hurts today.
He won the Norris in his Sophomore season while still on his ELC
He had 70+ points in the season the Flames had 114 points, again still on his ELC
That might have helped a little

This is a pretty accurate way of looking at a competitive window… you need waves of youth coming in that can supplement the core players of the team. It’s too bad Gaudreau and Tkachuk left right when this wave of solid young players were about to come in and contribute.

Yup. People tend to think it's "one wave" but really you need to continually build.
Some teams get lucky and win in the first wave (Chicago / Pittsburgh) but lately it's the second wave where most teams have had success. Pittsburgh back to back cups were the second wave, Washington won its cup in the second wave, Tampa's cups were second wave, and Colorado won the cup by building continuously over time.
All those teams won the cup ~10 years after they made their first high picks.

I think Toronto really needs Tanev and Markstrom. Tanev will give a great boost in D zone and will make one of their LDs much better player right away. And Markstrom who can play more and perform better than their current guys.
May be we can get the first trade when Toronto is in the town.
