If there is any sort of positive to being a fan of markets like Calgary/Edmonton/Winnipeg is that getting no trade clauses waived should be pretty damn easy. Especially this week.

It’s also difficult to gauge what an overpay/high price is for Markstrom at this point. The goalie market is very unique this year. If it has to be a really good offer for Conroy to approach Markstrom about waiving his NMC, my guess is a first round pick + A-level prospect. I know that’s way more than anyone gets for goalies but Conroy does not need or want to trade Markstrom. It might have to be an offer that’s way higher than what we’ve seen for goalies in the past.
The catch will be that level of return will have to include making the cap work. The flames will have to retain salary or take back a contract because few teams (if any) have room to take on Markstrom’s cap hit right now.

Sec214: “One of my sources is sending me information that the flames have engaged Markstrom on his willingness to waive his NMC.”
Friedman: “I don’t believe they’ve gone to him with anything, any possibility of what could happen.” He goes no to say the Flames would have to be presented with a incredible deal before they’d even approach Markstrom to talk about waiving his NMC.
I get that people enjoy Sec214’s stuff because it’s fun to believe a genuine insider is leaking info on this site. But if someone has to be a jerk not to buy into it, I guess I’m a jerk.

Since you're not seeing the difference, I'll explain it...
Sec's source has suggested the Flames discussed with Markstrom 'his willingness' to waive. That isn't saying that they asked him to waive, just gauging the waters to see if it is possible, or a non-starter. as PepsiFree said: how would the Flames know where he might be willing to go, if they didn't ask him? To summarize: Sec's info is suggesting that they have had some discussions on THE POSSIBILITY of it.
Conversely, Friedman's comment was "I don’t believe they’ve gone to him with anything". That is in reference to an ACTUAL PROPOSAL - specifically asking him to waive, in order to go to XXX. Obviously, things haven't gotten that far along.
This is pretty straight-forward: they've talked about whether he might consider it, but they haven't asked him to waive. The sources are not contradictory, nor conflicting.
(bit Sec is still a jerk )

I assume the poster is on the young side given the juvenile gifs and attention seeking but clearly they have a friend or family member linked to ongoings in Flames headquarters. The reality is that nobody in this forum or in the media has really broke anything newsworthy in some time so the posts at least distract from the pie in the sky trade proposals. I expect things will come to a head next month one way or another as it will be nice to get some closure on these pending UFA’s so we can look forward to what the organization has to work with going into the offseason and next season.

I think Conroy is trying to do the best for the team and for his players. If the plan is rebuild/retool why let the players know his plan and ask their opinions. And if one of the attractive teams wants Markstrom and offers just Okay return, why Conroy would reject it instead to give Markstrom a chance to play for the cup with a team better than us.

So you don't like visual communication and instantly consider it juvenile and make other assumptions based off a form of expression.
Don't worry I won't assume your social intelligence.

Given what the temperature must have been when their plane arrived early this morning, today would probably be the best time to raise the idea with Marky.

Yikes did you proof read that before sending it?

Nah. It's what was on my mind at the time of posting and I have no regrets whatsoever. I am a member of other sports forums where some really good insiders got ran off because a lot of their stuff didn't come to fruition wich I feel was really unfortunate so I don't have any problem with the poster posting stuff because it sounds like they do have some legit information. I feel the poster may be taken more seriously if they didn't resort to the silly gifs and I know for a fact I'm not the only person that rolls their eyes everytime the poster posts in that manner. Maybe some here are afraid of the wrath of the groupthink here but I'm not. It's just my opinion Bingo. As you once said please feel free to put me on ignore if you don't like my takes.

I mean, come on, "I am a member of other sports forums where some really good insiders got ran off ... wich I feel was really unfortunate" is an odd thing to acknowledge right after a post where you're being a dick to the guy

On the other hand, this season seems to be unique in that there are quite a few teams who consider themselves to be contenders who are having goaltending issues who might be willing to pay a huge price to acquire a goalie they think can take them all the way.
Many people have pointed out that the last time a goalie was traded in-season with a first round pick going the other way was 10 years ago when Buffalo traded Miller to St. Louis. It feels almost certain that it will happen this year.

Management wouldn't be doing their jobs if they didn't communicate with their players on things like would they waive and where would you waive.
Trick is to get it writing (Iginla lol).
I'm sure they know full well where he'd go and where he won't. And they know full well what moving him means for the rest of this season.
