I wonder what the collective draw is of every street light the whole way around 101 km of Stoney Trail. Obviously negligible compared to all the heaters going and I'm not saying kill those first, but I noticed recently in the Dallas area the freeways don't have streetlights and they seem to survive so in dire situations maybe?

Isn't that something like 1%?
Better than nothing but you'd think it would drop a lot more after the emergency alert.

I wonder if people are scrambling to cook, get things done or quickly overheat the house out of fear of it going down later.

As long as it's moving towards 0 I call it a win... I'm going to my girlfriends house after turning everything off at mine.

I'm wondering if the municipalities can help by doing things like turning off street lights.

Too much faith in government! No integration at all! We are the energy capital of Canada and one of the top energy producers in the world and we are struggling with keeping the lights on.

Wild times

The Alberta government has just issued a six month moratorium on winter weather, and asks everyone to just roll back to fall.

Napkin math: Stoney Trail is 100,000 meters long, Google says an LED streetlight pulls 73W so I'll call it 100, if the lights are spaced 50 metres apart that means 4,000 fixtures for both directions, so Stoney pulls 400,000 W, i.e. 266 space heaters at 1,500W each.

Where it gets interesting is lights that have not been converted to LED which can draw up to 10x more... provincewide it's certainly significant enough to have impact.

Have your lights gone out? Relax a bit. Sounds like you’re going to implode or something.

Down to -220 now

Streetlights are off in my neighborhood and saw someone on reddit say the same thing. Of course with the new subcontractor it's just as realistic to think they're just broken

Were you also accounting for the net interchange? Those are our import/export totals either exporting to or being imported from BC Sask and MT.

Grid frequency did actually have a slight dip but nothing crazy, haven’t heard of any load shedding in Calgary yet. The good news is we’re leaving peak hours so everything is gonna be all good.

Does the -78 MW interchange to Sask mean we are giving 78 MW to them or vice versa?

A negative value implies we are importing power
