Monahan isn't a poor man's version of Lindholm though. He is a poor man's version of Dylan Strome

^Friedman I believe speculated that a trade or buyout may be in the books for Elvis and CBJ.

The only places that make sense for Elvis already have good goalies. That being Vegas or Nashville, Tennessee.

That will be a tough contract to move...
Would the Oilers and Jackets look at a Merzlikins for Campbell swap?

You mean a Merzlikins for Broberg + Holloway + 1st + 2nd + Campbell swap?

Oilers would likely have to add - but not that much.
Merzlikins makes more and has one extra year left on the deal.
Over the last two years:
Campbell - 0.886 -21.1 GSAA
Merzlikins - 0.890, -22.5 GSAA

I had thought Campbell only had 2 years left on his deal so was wrong about that. Term remaining is equal, Campbell is $400k cheaper, Merzlikins is 3 years younger.
Oilers would have to add but IMO it feels like the starting point for both teams to give their goalies a fresh start.

Just realized with all this trade talk that if the flames squeak in to the playoffs they may end up giving up this years first (20-32nd overall). I think I'm reading the conditions correctly?

The picks for teams that make the playoffs begin at 17th overall, so they would need to be the strongest wildcard team in the NHL to hit 20th overall.
And even then, that would just give Montreal the option to take that pick.

That's ok. We'll have New Jersey's first, Colorado's first, Toronto's first, and Dallas' first.

Every day changes my thoughts on what is the likely trade scenarios this season for the flames. A week ago, I could see the flames trading all of Lindholm, tanev, Hanifin and Markstrom. A couple days ago, I could see the flames only trading Lindholm and tanev. Now, I could see it being Lindholm, Tanev and Markstrom.

would rather get it out of the way with it not being a high pick

Freidman says the ask for cutter Gauthier towards Colorado was Byram, so that might curtail some speculation concerning the player, since the avalanche turned it down.

Like Dubnyk and Talbot, whoever gets Campbell next will get a pleasant surprise.
The Oilers blaming goalies for their demise is a tradition like no other, as is trying to bury players in the minors or shutting them up by paying them under the table to go on LTIR and keep their mouth shut.
Oilers will not think twice about that trade, even to retain, as the new guy will be blamed when they lose our of the first round or not even make the playoffs.
Meanwhile, good chance that CLB will have a decent goalie for a couple years.

The Avs may not have Gauthier high on their rankings list either. Tough to know.
